Apples are another seasonal favorite that comes to mind in Autumn. How do you make the most of this season's bounty? Harrowsmith had some great looking recipes in this months issue.

Does any body else make apple jam? I followed a recipe for old- fashioned strawberry jam (no pectin) and used all apples instead of strawberries. Turned out like a very sweet and thick applesauce which we like to eat on biscuits, pancakes, toast.

Alison, would you care to post the address for Harrowsmith? I have read that magazine in the past and thought they went out of business. I'd love to get a subscription. What part of N.S. are you in? My one daughter-in-law is from Bridgewater, the other one is from Montreal. As far as apples, I love to make applesauce and freeze slices for apple pies or just cooked apples in the winter.

Waldorf Salad: Chop apples...chop celery...chop walnut...mix together with a little miracle whip.

Grandma's Apple Gooey: Peel and chunk apples...put in cast iron skillet...add honey...add raisin...add cinnamon...cook a few minutes...cool...freeze...thaw...serve warm or cold. My kids and grandkids love this.

Thanks for the address Alison! Cindy, I had forgotten about waldorf salad! I have an overabundance of pears, thanks to my neighbor. I'm wondering how "pear" waldorf salad would be? Think I'll try it tonight since I couldn't find any nice tomatoes in the garden.

Just thought I'd let you all know, the pear waldorf salad was delicious!

Different version of waldorf salad:

chunk apples (unpeeled) red grapes walnuts raisins mayo

Mix all ingredients together - Delicious. A family favorite at every Thanksgiving at our house. Enjoy!! :o)

Also dehydrate your apples: peel and chunk apples. Put in a bowl and dribble lightly with honey and mix well. Sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar and mix well. Place in dehydrator until crunchy (or until they are the way you like them). Makes GREAT snacks. Enjoy!

Sure wish I knew how to make applesauce or had the time to bake a homemade apple pie. :'o( Love it when the house smells of apple pie!

I love the smell of apples baking. In the summer when it's too hot I like apple candles. The easiest apple dessert is baked apples. They can cook while you're eating supper. And kids can help fill the cores with dates, raisins, butter, brown sugar, honey or maple syprup. Lots of variations. Hmmm...I think I'll bake some tonight.
