KD Rest Period

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

From the Official Site following Kieron Dyers Scan on the 6th August.

"The injury is described as a 'run of the mill' football injury which will, like any other player, require a few weeks of treatment and rest to cure."

Does anyone know how long this few weeks is likely to take, Is there any "light training" going on or is it rest all the way.

I can't help but think that he would be a big asset to our midfield

Run of the mill my arse.
Where is he. The injury at first - if I can remember that long back - was shin splints. That's what Andy Cole had at one time. I don't recall AC developing connected muscle injuries. I know nothing about football injuries, but 10 months out and counting is very worring. We're never going to get our £25 mil at this rate.

bob,

I think you're referring to the calf muscle injury KD suffered as he went back into full-time training after the operation to remove the bone cyst (ie. hole) in his shin. It was the cyst that had resulted in a fracture of his shin-bone.

The latest injury was a tear in the calf muscle. I would hardly describe it as a 'run of the mill' injury, but certainly it isn't one that should have kept him out for more than say 4-6 weeks.

My recollection however was that it didn't initially respond to treatment, and I think there some talk about a blood clot in the muscle. I'm not a medic, but I suspect there isn't a lot that could be done about the blood clot, other than to give it time to dissipate on it's own accord.

These things happen, but the biggest disappointment in the entire episode is the non-diagnosis of the original bone-cyst which caused him pain for a long time before it finally resulted in a fracture. A cyst is simply a hole in the bone, which is normally readily apparent on a simple x- ray - these are normally harmless, unless they are relatively large compared to the diameter of the bone itself. In this case they can seriously weaken the bone, and in a worst case situation, result in a fracture - which is what happened to KD.

Just out of interest, does anyone know if this is the same leg that he broke at Ipswich about a year before joining us? and if so, could it be a related injury?

It would be great to get Dyer back. He's the sort of player we need to make Rob Lee / Clarence Acuna look good. Lee / Acuna can sit back and defend in midfield with Dyer given a liscense to roam like a wild goat.

Wild Goat?? What, are we playing in the Keswick District or something instead of the premier league? Nice metaphor though;-) (shouldn't that be with Onomatopea on the greek subs bench?)

I saw YKD on Thurs/Fri last week at Lisle Street, he obviously felt uncomfortable coming straight up to me and starting a conversation so he didn't, otherwise I might've asked him how his injury was doing whilst trying not to mention how little he is.

Tony Was he limping when you saw him or did he look like he could kick a ball. At least it's good to know he is in the Toon area.

Looking over his shoulder at a big f.off silver merc that was illegally parked and wearing red/blue sports gear, he looked as fit as a mop lop.

The Journal this morning reckons KD should resume fitness training in two weeks time.

They go on to say that with his natural fitness he should be fit to play two weeks after that. Call me a cynic, but how on earth can a player who has been out since Ferbruary, and had two significant operations, be fit enough to play a football match two weeks after restarting training? If he does, then no doubt he will be injured within two weeks again also.

Hey Cynic, I agree with you :-(

They'll be in a hurry to get him back so that they can cash him in.

Sorry Rik, there's only one Cynic allowed in North Shields.

They've had to speed things up after yesterday's announcement that Dr Steadman doesn't think Bridges should have surgery.

O'Deary (Me) today said that Leeds don't have £20m to spend on one player anymore. Looks like they should have cashed in on Viduka methinks - who Marcelino had for breakfast last sesason, £20m my Arsenal.
