How may terrorists do you think we will actually kill in Afghanistan?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unk's Wild Wild West : One Thread

I think we will spend tens of billions of dollars to blow up some underground bunkers in the desert, but I don't think terrorists are as dumb as Dubya thinks they are. They are not going to be sitting in there waiting to be crushed, they have probably already left the country or will be hiding in civilian areas that we have promised not to target.

We will be shown lots of photos of approximately 23 terrorist camps that our bombers have obliterated, Dubya will pound his chest, and Repugs will call him a hero. As soon as our bombers vacate the region, the terrorists will go back to work and build better bunkers.

The end result: Billions of dollars will be wasted, and the egos of stupid people will be highly inflated, believing once again that America is all-powerful.

My vote for how many terrorists we will actually kill: 0

What's your guess?

I agree, it will be an excercise in futility. But it will serve as an excellent political charade for millions of Americans who are very, very dumb. They must get their revenge, even if it just pounding on sand, and Dubya is well suited to fulfill this exceptional goal.

The bunkers will be crushed, piles of burning debris, just like the WTC. And just like the WTC, it will be impossible to find victims.

Another prediction: The Pentagon will be releasing lots of reports such as... "Our intelligence had positive confirmation that there were dozens of terrorists in this bunker and that bunker, but unfortunately it is impossible to locate the actual bodies."

Yes! Success!! We know they were in there! We'll never be able to prove it, but we KNOW they were in there!

While Afghanistan was ORIGINALLY the training area for SOME acts of terrorism [Someone in Iraq is doing the biochemical terrorist training], my personal opinion is that the entirety of Afghanistan could be leveled and absolutely NO dent in terrorist activities would take place. Again, just my opinion, but does anyone REALLY think that ALL the terrorists "trained" in Afghanistan or Iraq? My guess is that once cells were established world-wide, training centers opened in these countries. Once you've learned how to do something, how much effort does it take to show someone else? Afghanistan may have provided an ideal climate for these activities [as in having hard-to-reach places by "snoops"], but plenty of other countries provide similar climates for clandestine activities.

My opinion is that this has spread too far already for any action in Afghanistan to make much of a difference in anything other than a symbolic way.

Don't worry about it, Al. It will hang around as a trailer or signature file on my posts, and when it grows tired, I'll actually miss it.

I have to agree with Anita. It's just plain old fashioned common sense. If you know somebody is looking for you and your pals you disburse, right? You split up, to make it harder for those looking for you to catch you all, and you relocate to the last places they'll ever look, and you just lay low and wait for it all to blow over. And you keep moving. It's what you'd do, and it's what they will do. The last thing anybody would do would be to all 'cluster up' in one well known spot and just stay there.

Omigod! Since I can't serve my country by going to Disneyworld, I decided to patriotically host my first Tupperware party next week. Now that's the LAST place I would expect a terrorist...you don't suppose...?

A bunch and thank goodness.

LOSERS is what these freaks are. Ain't about religion. Ain't about decades of Western Imperialism. It is about whacked-out heroin addicts, losers at life, and mass murderers wanting to make a statement.

I say LIGHT THEM UP.

There are two types of desireable actions, in what promises to be a long struggle against terrorism.

(1) Eliminate terrorists

(2) Eliminate national governments which support & shelter terrorists.

The posts above just concern the first type of action. I think what we are doing now primarily relates to the second.

(2) Eliminate national governments which support & shelter terrorists.

If this is one of the objectives, then it will also be necessary for the governmnet of the United States to eliminate itself.

Peter hit the nail on the head.
