BAREFOOT - Will be offline for a bit

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Current News : One Thread

Just had a call from Barefoot--everyone and the pets are OK, but they had an electrical fire which destroyed the laundry room. Good thing the dogs were there--they busted open the bedroom door so the alarm could be fully heard! The whole house is full of smoke and ash and they're staying at a hotel for the moment. A cleaning firm is due soon to take care of things (they hope).

The fire was caused by a short in the fuse box. I won't tell you any more, leave it to Barefoot to do that--and he's threatened us with pictures, so be ready.

Well, a big bone is just what the boys had the night before. Will be a while before we do that again. But, they get whole bed to themselves at the hotel.

here are the photos. The contractor is due tomorrow at nine. We want power back tomorrowl, but it may be saturday earliest. This sucks!

Miss Kitty will be staying with ma and pa for a while. The boys stay with us.

let's see if I rmeember how to do this link stuff. Not much sleep, I am hungry and grumpy, and it's getting dark. I stole the power from the fridge to go on line for a few minutes. Had to get my fix! LOL

Yeah, the rest is a mess, but everyone is fine. Had a great chat with Git.

Have to get the fridge back on, and then off to the motel. The boys ate and will go out for a bit, then close up the house and go. Can't leave the windows open in this neighborhood. We have our 'protection' in a safe place out of the house.

Right now we are looking at fixing this mess, selling and moving!

oh yeah, we have an extension cord from the neighbors house for the fridge.

You all were VERY lucky, but I guess the firefighters told you that. If you had been just a few minutes later with the fire extinguisher. . .

Well, busy days.

We have everything out of the house. We found a hotel that retns by the week, the room has bed, sofa area, kitchen. maid service twice a week. phone access for computer!!!!

Right now we are at ma and pa's, visiting the dogs and cat, and trying to find a check store where we can get some money. We were so busy the last few days we never made it to the bank, and while we have a check for 2500 for emergency, we can't do anything with it until Tuesday! Columbus holiday and banks closed!

bought a couple cell phones and the house phone is going to be off for a bit.

What a hassle, mess, inconvenience. you know or can imagine!

I only have a few minutes on line here, and then we have to go do some more driving around, then go switch cars for the night, and get to the hotel.

I tell ya, I'd rather not have to deal with all this, and we are so happy that State Farm has this program where they supply the contractor. They are handling all of it. Whew!

Barefoot, so sorry you're having to go through this, but relieved to hear everyone is safe.

Thanks Brooks. We're glad no one was hurt, too. It was a close thing, considering all the flammables in the laundry room. I mean, we had charcoal lighter fluid, propane tanks, hurricane lamp oil, lighter fluid. It was a miracle I think, that it didn't blow up.
