Tonight we are having Hot dogs (not my favorite but it is my daughter's birthday and we only have them about 3-4 times a year) pasta salad, cucumbers and vinegar, apple juice, angel food cake with cherries and whipped cream. I'm already hungry.

-- Cheryl in KS (cherylmccoy@rocketmail.com), October 04, 2001.

Our family meal is always the noon meal here. Today we had tacos (we always stretch that taco meat with brown rice added)and ice tea. Fall has definately arrived here in Ohio so most of our main meals will now be soups, stews and chili.

Chicken, chicken, chicken, we'll be haveing that for a while since it's on sale this week and I'm outa meat. Tonight it's baked chicken with greek seasoning, purple hull peas, cornbread, leftover mashed tators, and green beans.

-- Carol in Tx (cwaldrop@peoplescom.net), October 04, 2001.

Tonight we're having pork piccatti, (pork leftover from roast on Sunday), scallopped potatoes (leftover from dinner last week) and stringbeans (leftover from dinner Tuesday night)plus a tomato/lettuce salad and for dessert, homemade chocolate chunk cookies. But don't tell DH, he doesn't know they're leftovers. He just thinks I've very creative.

Wishing you enough.

Grilled cheese and fries for the kids withf ruit on the side and hot chicken sandwich for the hubby (and fries). I had a couple of hot dogs. I am just SO not into cooking these days! Pretty sad. Guess I am just out of ideas. Had roast chicken and taters and carrots with gravy the other night and tonight was the end of that bird.

-- Alison in N.S. (aproteau@istar.ca), October 04, 2001.

One of my three boys had football practice tonight, so dinner is late. We are having hamburgers and french fries, since DAD is out of town and this seemed quick, easy and filling. We will have apple slices with caramel for dessert, YUM YUM!!!!

-- Ivy in NW AR (balch84@cox-internet.com), October 04, 2001.

Fish fillets, french fries, green beans, homemade chunky applesauce (yummy) and ice cream for dessert, although the applesauce is good enough to be dessert.(Tastes just like applepie without the crust!)

-- Lenette (kigervixen@webtv.net), October 04, 2001.

I like this-lots of great ideas for next week....Over the weekend, we had company and so tried to put a pork roast in our smoker- not so good-the ends were dry, and middle didn't cook well enough, so today I chucked what was left-a fair amount, into my crock pot, with a teriyaki marinade and let it cook on low for about four hours(it was all ready pretty much done-Some of it more than I wanted!) It turned out great! Nice smoky flavor, and much more tender! So we had that with scalloped potatos, applesauce, steamed summer squash, and biscuits. For dessert-rice pudding-using up some leftover rice, and cherry sauce

-- Kelly (ksaderholm@yahoo.com), October 04, 2001.

Since we butchered out 8 turkey birds 2 nights ago, guess what we had for dinner!?! :) Smoked turkey salad, with lots of onions, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers and green peppers. Homemade applesauce, french bread and Sweet Iced Tea!! Oreo cookies for dessert. Guess we will be having all kinds of turkey dishes for the next few weeks, as the smallest turkey was 23 lbs!! Well, I'm gonna jump in here. I lurk everywhere else but christian cottage keepers. I roasted 2 huge pork roasts to can tomorrow. So supper was roast pork, rice w/gravy, green peas, homemade bread and sweet tea. Dessert was supposed to be banana pudding but my dd called long distance and talked for an hour. Guess we'll have pudding tomorrow. Blessings, Peggy

-- old hoot gibson (hoot@pcinetwork.com), October 05, 2001.

sounds great! You are all so ambitious. Roasted turkey salad sounds wonderful, and I haven't had any butternut squash since spring when I used the last of mine. Tonight my daughter is having a pizza party for her B-day, I will make salad and breadsticks to go with it. Hoot I wish you were my father!!! Quit eatin all that bologna it isn't good for your heart!!!!

-- Melissa (me@home.net), October 05, 2001.

Friday nights at our house are always hamburger and french fries! My husband's favorite. Isn't he easy to please? I'm making the hamburger buns now - I have him spoiled. No store bought ones for him! For dessert we will have homemade oatmeal cookies. I'll also see if I can find a couple of tomatoes left in what's left of the garden and of course we'll have some bread and butter pickles that I put up this summer. Yum, yum! The Ky. Barb

-- Barb (bjconthefarm@yahoo.com), October 05, 2001.

Well, Hoot, you an' ole Calvin are welcome at our table anytime. (Altho Oregon's probably a mite far for you to come for supper.) I don't like bolony either, and I'm not much into sandwiches for that matter. Today's menu is fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn on the cob, and chocolate chip cookies (homemade, of course - can't stand store bought goodies.) And we always have plenty of catfood, table scraps, and fresh goat milk for the cats.

-- Lenette (kigervixen@webtv.net), October 05, 2001.

BBQ chicken stir-fry, mashed red potatoe, peas. Not bad considering my freezers are there and the stove is here.

-- Cindy (S.E.IN) (atilrthehony@countrylife.net), October 05, 2001.

Hi all, We are going to be having Swedish meatballs, mashed taters, green beans, and applesauce cake. Home raised, home preserved, and eaten around the family table. Thank God for families!

-- vicki in NW OH (thga76@aol.com), October 05, 2001.

Now , Hoot, you just aren't making those sandwiches right is all! The blogna is good pan fried then put it on toast with mustard and cheese and lettuce. YUM! I hated fried bologna as a kid but man I could live on it now! LOL Whats L'il Dumplin' gonna make for your first supper? any requests?

-- Alison in N.S. (aproteau@istar.ca), October 05, 2001.

Alison,

I didn't know anyone else made bologna sandwiches that way. I love them like that too but only have bologna maybe once a year now. We try to eat so much healthier these days but you know how those old taste buds never forget some things. LOL.

-- Terry - NW Ohio (aunt_tm@hotmail.com), October 05, 2001.

Daughter is coming to visit tonight, son will be at a football game, so we are having ham and scalloped potatoes, her favorite. It's funny as the kids grow-up, when they are younger favorite days are wanting to go to fast food or resturants, now they want Mom to cook them a meal! Vicki

-- Vicki McGaugh TX (vickilonesomedoe@hotmail.com), October 05, 2001.

I'm a pretty decent cook myself, but I would love it if my mom would cook me a meal!! Unfortunately she has a brand-new house now and she and her new husband mostly go out to eat. Guess the kitchen is just for looks!

-- Melissa (me@home.net), October 05, 2001.

I hear ya, Terry! Now tonight for supper the hubby and I had pate chinois which is like a shepherd's pie. The kids had noodles with cheese grated over them and one had hotdogs and the other chicken nuggets (they simply won't eat real food). Aaaaand the piece de resistance...homemade apple pie with vanilla ice cream!!! You guys have inspired me!

-- Alison in N.S. (aproteau@istar.ca), October 05, 2001.

Tonight...General Tso's Chicken with fried rice. Late night snack of home made bread and butter with some of Wal Mart's Good Value brand pineapple apricot jam. Not bad. (: (just a nutrionist's nightmare.) Speaking of WM...anyone grind your own Millstone coffee there? It's my one luxury. Once you try the decaf hazelnut no other coffee measures up. Ah, Hoot...your diet sounds DANGEROUS for a brother with heart problems! Your real diet is probably steamed brown rice and sauteed kale, the rest is just wishful thinking. LOL. Stef

Saturday morning, and it is cold here in OHIO. Got a few soup bones out of the freezer. Added them and some seasonings to a pot of water, and I'm going to make a big pot of Vegetable Soup. Later I'm going to bake some homemade cheddar biscuits to go with it.

-- Melissa (me@home.net), October 06, 2001.

I think its a soup or stew day so the slo cooker is coming out. Now, what to put in it....

-- Alison in N.S. (aproteau@istar.ca), October 09, 2001.

Tonight is fresh homemade polish sausage, applesauce and potatoe pancakes. I like the pancakes made from mashed potatoes and my husband likes the potatoes grated. We'll have to toss a coin to see who wins.

-- Charleen in WNY (harperhill@eznet.net), October 09, 2001.

Roast beef, mashed taters, field peas, green beans and coleslaw. Dessert: chocolate chocolate chip pound cake.
