hello-

building my first system. i'm using: asus a7a266, amd athlon 1.4ghz, ata100/7200rpm 40g hdd, pc133 ram. i've hooked everything up and when i try to boot to bios setup, nothing happens. no beeps, nothing on the screen. the cpu fan is running. the standy led on the mobo is on. the case fan runs, but i'm not getting anything on my monitor. what should be my first step to figuring this out? could there be an incompatibility issue? is my mother board dead? thanks for any help. i'm a newbie so your patience is appreciated.

This problem is very common and could be a damaged mobo. You will have to check a few things before you can say it is damaged, Make sure all leads and all components are firmly in place as this could be caused by a loose graphics card. If that doesn't solve the problem disconnect your Hdd cable as this may be connected the wrong way round (Remeber the red marking on the flat ribbon cable goes to pin 1) and try to bootup. Read the manual because some motherboards have a safety setting for the heatsink fan so make sure the heatsink fan is plugged into the CPU header/connector on the motherboard. Hope it helps
