Oop. Something slipped out, missus. Hope it stays in this time. Still, it got me on the answers page.

No Pressure On Me To Rush Return Oct 3 2001 The Journal Kieron Dyer will not be pressurised into an early return from injury after insisting Newcastle's encouraging start to the season has taken the heat off his rehabilitation. The Newcastle midfielder cannot wait to join United's Premiership assault and claims there has never been a better time to play for England. However, Dyer is happy to take a back seat until he is fully fit, with both club and country coping admirably in his absence. "If Newcastle had suffered a poor start to the season and England were in trouble in their qualifying group then I would feel under pressure to push myself too hard," admitted the former Ipswich midfielder. "Ultimately both teams have been a big help to me because they've been performing so well. "I know I can take it easy and make sure I don't come back too early. "If United were going through a rough time and it looked like the team were missing me then it would be very difficult. The manager would want me back in there straight away and I would feel a duty to be there. "Now I'm just wondering how I will get back into a team which looks so good going forward!" What Toon games has he been watching? Or is he just having too good a time watching daytime tv? Maybe if we docked his wages until he starts to play again he might take a different view. Howay man Kieron, get real and get yersel back to the real world. You've spent too much time in the Twighlight Zone.

I'm happy to see him take his time and make sure when he does return he'll be chomping at the bit. We suffered too often from rushing players back.

I have to agree with Bobby, too often in the past we have rushed players back (Cort and Shearer for example) only for them to break down and be out for even longer

doesn't kieron normally do a different chomp?

Dunno whether Dyer will make that much difference except as part of a late triple substitution: we've already got pace without polish in Craig Bellamy. Having said that, he could replace Nobby for a few weeks.

imho we could do with Cort back more than Dyer....Shearer has been disappointing in his comeback, I know he's just coming back from a serious injury clarky! ;)) but he's been disappointing and very lacking...Ameobi is not the answer for me but he made Shearer look even more ordinary on Sunday....

No i'm not writing him off, i just don't think he's first team material on his current form....

I like the way BR is praising Fowler. Maybe he's going to try his luck.

Shearer's contribution so far Gav is debatable. Although most reckon he's been poor and isn't worth his place in the side, not surprisingly I disagree.

Considering the length of time he's been out, and perhaps more relevant, the length of time since his left knee was properly functional, I think he has done fairly well. He has three goals (2 official, one unofficial) in about 6 games, which isn't too shabby, and his general linking play has been quite good.

Unfortunately, he has yet again been overplayed and in the last two games, perhaps not surprisingly, he has certainly looked jaded. He was taken off 15 minutes from the end v Boro, and 5 minutes from the end v Leicester - apart from those 20 minutes he has played every minute of every game since he pulled the shirt on again against the mackems. IMO, he should not have played in either of the two midweek games against Brentford and Leicester, which would have left him much fresher for the weekend games at WHU and Liverpool - and it is perhaps no surprise that we lost both games.

He is undoubtedly nearing the end of his fantastic career, and yet again is being abused by his home town club in coming back from serious injury. Nevertheless, I still think he has a valuable role to play - perhaps during this season and next. I certainly expect his game to improve as he nears match fitness and sharpness, and also for him to finish this season at least as top-scorer again.

Should he be playing every minute of every game? Absolutely not - it is sheer unbridled lunacy, and frankly Bobby Robson should have more bloody sense!

Also Clarky his performance against Manu was one of the best exhibitions of the CF art I have seen in ages

Agree Shearer should be used more sparingly. We do have other options now, and the precendent for him being subbed, or starting on the bench has been set. He'll be the last man to say he shouldn't be playing every minute of every match. It's up to the manager and coaches to say it for him.

No doubt Dyer and Cort will end up coming back earlier than they should, but right now I see no reason to panic over the length of time they're being given for recovery. Maybe we're cautiously learning to be cautious. ;-)

I feel responsible. I saw him getting into his car after the match and said to him: "come back soon eh?"!!

gulp.

Like everyone else I want him back to his best, I just don't think we should be carrying him as he fights his way back to full fitness....because of Corts injury and Ameobi's lack of striking ability it seems that we have no choice.....that's what disappoints me...I'd also agree that it's disgraceful that he's been played so much so early into his recovery....

We've been depending on Alan Shearer's for an unconscionable length of time. Maybe we need to add Collected Centre Forward to our list of essentials (along with Commanding Centre Back and Controlling Central Midfielder).

LKD will be back as soon as Laurent picks up his suspension. Not too long to wait then.
