Howay Freddy....get a 6 million bid in for Seth Johnson that they can't refuse....
-- Anonymous, October 03, 2001
for me, johnson is a cracking player, in a good team he would flourish.
-- Anonymous, October 03, 2001
So who would you rather we bought ?
-- Anonymous, October 03, 2001
Eh? we both said Johnson :))
-- Anonymous, October 03, 2001
>>johnson ....... in a good team he would flourish<<Lets us off then, doesn't it.
-- Anonymous, October 03, 2001
Yes, get Johnson, he's class£6m is about right
-- Anonymous, October 03, 2001
Good young player - full of energy, can tackle, can pass - he'd be a terrific acquisition.
-- Anonymous, October 03, 2001
Sorry but Freddy's money is being saved to buy the club :-(
-- Anonymous, October 03, 2001
If only the club had not declared a dividend on their losses they'd have £3.8m to spend on assets for the club. Add in last years £3.8m and there would be the money for Seth.

According to several papers, Freddy has said that despite the losses, money will still be made available for two big signings.

If we miss this opportunity, or fail to try and get him, somebody should be shot with sh@t. (No, I'm still no better)

..... you haven't been reading the correct 'stuff' TG - we weren't that bad against Liverpool, allegedly!

Sorry to be a party pooper folks but I reckon Johnson would be a HUGE gamble at around 6 million. Every single time I`ve watched him he`s shown great ball control and awareness of opposition players around him. I like the way he takes responsibility in the centre of the park by dropping deep and receiving short passes from his defenders. But that`s about it. Frankly I think he regularly takes the easy pass, and usually sideways at that(I`ve never looked but he`s doubtless the sort of player Opta loves in terms of pass completion). But he sits so deep that he rarely hurts teams with his passes. From that depth he`d need to be Glen Hoddle, but he isn`t. Also suspect is his pace (and determination?) - he certainly works hard to get in front of attacking opposition players, but just watch him drop straight off anyone who makes anything of a burst from midfield. Unquestionably he`s a good PL midfielder, but you`d have to convince me he`s even half as great as many of you believe him to be. 6 million for a young and slightly improved Gary Speed may not be bad value at today`s rates, but I think you`d be very disappointed if you expected him to significantly strengthen our midfield. Smacks more of desperation for us just to get someone in. Anyone. I`ll just go fetch my hard hat now ...

Leave the hat Loony , not a bad summinization (sp /authenticity), the Buff is very impressed , just seen him a couple of times ,so just two question, when was he classed as a midfielder ? was he converted to one from defence,? oh nearly forgot for cv , pace lack of afraid.

I think he played LB for Crewe Buff, and LWB for the U-21's, before moving into m/f with Derby. He doesn't have blinding pace, but which central midfield players do have? He certainly isn't a cart-horse.All big money signings are a gamble, but this kid is young, has a great engine, and is a full England international. He's not a creative player in the JSV mould, but he definitely would bring energy and drive in to a static m/f. I don't really see him as that much of a gamble at £6mm - good resale value, or worst - and the bigger gamble would be for us to keep passing up on talent when it becomes available.
I don't think we'll move for him because I don't think we have £6mm to spend - we'll finish up taking a much bigger gamble on someone for circa £2-3mm who won't have anywhere like the pedigree of Johnson - and someone like Boro will move in and snap him up.

Interesting comeback Clarky but I´m afraid I´m yet to be convinced. You see there's this fella I´ve heard of called Clarence Acunya who's also young(ish), has a great engine and is a full international. He doesn't appear to be a creative player, but I´m sure would bring energy and drive to a static m/f ...I´m not taking the piss - and agree with your analysis re. any future resale value - but at the end of the day it of course comes down to personal opinion and I just don't rate SJ compared to others

"to others" ..... like .......
-- Anonymous, October 04, 2001
I'm one of the others as well....

What about Prutton? He seemed canny in the U21 game tonight, put some really testing balls through to Vassel and DeFoe
