Prayer Request

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Christian Church : One Thread

Anyone know of any good churches in the Madison, Wisconsin area? I was contacted this weekend about a possible lucrative (albeit contract) position in that area, I am waiting to hear if I have it or not (that's the prayer request!). My home church here self-destructed this week - and I am almost on the streets myself - so the timing seems perfect for a move outta here. I'll keep everyone posted on it.

Hi John,

I am originally from WI... beautiful state! I don't know a lot about the churches in the Madison area... I don't know doctrinally where they stand... I do know that there are I believe 2 in Madison itself... I think they are both without a preacher now... and may be struggling?

This past year a new church plant was started in Fitchburg (a suburb of Madison)... I don't know how things are going but I am sure they could use you!

For more info on the states churches go to www.wcma.net or contact Ken Henes @ khenes@wcma.net... Ken is the state evangelist.

Good luck... will be praying for you.

John,

You would sure be most welcome in WISCONSIN!! :-) The Fall colors are gorgeous right now.... (I am located about 1 hour north of Madison....)

I see Marc beat me to giving you Ken Henes' email address... not much I can add. Except... Madison is a Very Liberal town....

Mark, I'm not a pastor, so I won't be filling any pulpits anytime soon. ;-) But as always I will do what I can!

Robin, if I happen to be offered the job, perhaps we can get together sometime!

Keep Quartz Hill Christian Church in your prayers. To make a long story short: the church had a "coup", one influential (read: rich) woman had one of the elders basically in her back pocket, and he promoted two of the deacons (w/o congregational approval) to elders, who were also under this woman's influence; once she had a majority in the Board, they voted out the lead elder and fired the pastor w/o notice, and then descended as a mob to change all the locks, seize paychecks, etc. (Apparently triumphing that night that they had won against those who would hold the Bible over the [badly written] church bylaws.) The pastor, the former elders and spiritually mature Christians in the church are considering whether to try to stage a counter-coup or try to re-form as a new church, or simply go our separate ways. We don't want to break up our family, but we are very discouraged. There are many who are just tired of the spiritual warfare, and many who are just sick of the evil and don't want to even have anything to do with them anymore. Pray for us as the Spirit leads us in what we should do and that He would have His way here.

In my first post in this thread, I wrote, "I'll keep everyone posted...", so here goes:

Unfortunately, the contract job in Madison didn't pan out. However, this week I interviewed for a permanent position near LAX that would be very challenging and rewarding. Please continue to pray for my jobless situation, that the Lord would place me where He wills.

As far as my church goes, the faithful who left (about 40 of us) are still hanging together, more are gathering around us (the Holy Spirit is infectious!) and we have already had one baptism and are planning another next week. We have tentatively named ourselves Westside Christian Fellowship and this Sunday are meeting for our first Sunday worship service in the home of the ousted pastor. We have started a planning committee and are in the process of finding out just what we need to do to become a new church. This is new for all of us, so we appreciate your continued prayers!
