HIZZONER LETS THESE AMERICA-BASHERS HAVE IT

By ANDREA PEYSER

October 2, 2001 -- MAYOR GIULIANI enjoys a street fight.

But never before has this city's leader faced a hostile audience from around the globe, many of whose members would enjoy bringing America to its knees - while parking illegally on the street.

I'm talking about the United Nations.

Nearly three weeks after suicide bombers waged war on New York, U.N. delegates returned to their America-bashing shrine on the East River.

Their mission: to determine whether we've got terrorism here.

Thank goodness the U.N. Terror Fest was kicked off by the voice of reason.

Giuliani was gracious as he took the podium - the first mayor in about 50 years to address the U.N. General Assembly. Then, he let the members have it.

"This is not a time for further study or vague directives," Rudy lectured.

"The time for understanding is over.

"You're either for us or against us."

As you might expect, some of the applause was a mite tepid.

Rudy knows with whom he's dealing. You only have to look back to the disgracefully anti-American, anti-Semitic U.N. Conference on Racism in South Africa this summer to understand what passes for diplomacy these days.

Since I wrote about the ongoing America-bashing orgy at the United Nations - a body that had been silent as the tomb since the World Trade Center attacks - hundreds of readers have voiced agreement.

But it isn't just the United Nations or the enemy sympathizers in the media who stupidly blame the United States for the attack. While the Rev. Jerry Falwell blames abortion and feminism for incurring God's wrath, Hollywood is afire with leftist mental midgets like Hanoi Jane Fonda, who begged us to "try to understand the underlying causes of the crime."

Jane, meet deranged writer Susan Sontag, who penned this outrage for The New Yorker: "If the word ‘cowardly' is to be used, it might be more aptly applied to those [American soldiers in Iraq] who kill from beyond the range of retaliation, high in the sky, than to those willing to die themselves in order to kill others."

At the United Nations, Rudy evoked the name of a another famous enemy-appeaser from the past.

British Prime Minister Neville "Chamberlain negotiated with the Nazis," Giuliani said. "Hitler was only encouraged."

Sorry, Hanoi Jane. Sorry, Self-righteous Susan. Turning on America, stroking the enemy, will only destroy us.

We've let our foes win too many times.

Terrorists blew a hole in the World Trade Center in 1993, and shot up a bus of yeshiva students on the Brooklyn Bridge in '94.

Terrorists destroyed our embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in '98, and tried to destroy the USS Cole just last year.

Turning the other cheek, as the imbecile songstress Madonna has counseled, has done us no good.

"Words alone are not enough," said Giuliani. "It is action alone that counts. The only acceptable result is total eradication of terrorism."

Your life depends on it.
