SRA's GistIt Software

greenspun.com : LUSENET : SpannMan's Logbook : One Thread

Yesterday, Dottie Cleal and Dean Whitaker, both from SRA, came to CIO to install the GistIt software.

Dean installed RedHat Linux 7.0 onto a machine. The installation required a permanent IP address. I did not have one, so I used 164.224.238.214. We own 213 and 215 so I hope it stays available. Robert Fuentes did log a help desk call for a permanent address. The software also likes to have a mail MX record added into the DNS. We had to work around this by adding a new custom receipient in Exchange with the SMTP address of gistit@[164.224.238.214]. Hopefully this custom receipient will not be waxed by the powers that be.

From the BlackBerry, Click on the GistIt icon. At the Documentation line, press and hold the orange button and hit the e key. This will clear out the GistIt database. Then request and update.

Andrew Graham and another SRA employee came yesterday afternoon and installed the GistIt server on the Windows 2000 machine. It appears to be working fine. To administer the machine, connect to http://gistit.hq.navy.m il:7001/console

I slicked the Linux machine since the GistIt server can run on Windows 2000. I installed and configured Windows 2000 Advanced Server, including Service Pack 2. Downloaded, installed and configured WebLogic from BEA systems. 6.0 service pack 2.

Andrew Graham, (andrew_graham@sra.com and 703.803.1998) send me the Windows 2000 version of the GistIt server, but when I received the package, there was no CD in it. I called Andrew and asked him to bring the software and perform the installation.

Please use the following IP address for your GisIT server: 164.224.224.23 g/w: 164.224.224.1 subnet mask: 255.255.240.0

Your ticket has been forwarded on to the Firewall team for the creation of an MX record in DNS.
