Monday, 1 October, 2001, 09:14 GMT 10:14 UK Chelsea Clinton arrives in Oxford The daughter of former American President Bill Clinton has arrived in Oxford to take up post-graduate studies at University College.

Chelsea Clinton was accompanied by her father as she arrived for Freshers' Week on Sunday lunchtime, before the official start of term next Sunday.

Chelsea is taking a two-year taught Master of Philosophy in International Relations.

She follows in the footsteps of her father, who studied politics at University College between 1968 and 1970.

A spokeswoman for Oxford University said Chelsea and her father had flown in from the United States and had come straight to the university where Chelsea would be starting a programme of induction.

Security

The spokeswoman confirmed that security measures were in place and that the university had taken advice from British and American advisors.

"Chelsea hopes to integrate into the normal student body just as other students do and get on with it," she said.

Chelsea graduated this summer from Stanford University in California where she majored in history.

As part of her degree, she completed a 150-page thesis on her father's mediation of the 1998 Northern Ireland peace agreement.
