Where was the crowd?

Ok, so the Bin Dippers got an early goal, but wasn't the crowd quiet? The dippers behind me made more noise than anyone else, in fact the biggest cheer of the day was at half time for that bunch of take-away owners doing the dragon walk.

Wall of noise? Cauldron atmosphere? My arse, to quote the great Jim Royal.

Never thought I'd say it, but 'sing when you're winning' is proving to be all too true for SJP. Very disappointed.

You're quite right nick - the atomsphere yesterday was appalling.

I can't ever recall the opposition fans outdoing us for the full 90 minutes before, but that's what happened yesterday. However, I think the early goal took the SJP crowd right out of the game - it's a fairly lame excuse I know, but it is fact.

The screaming at the Referee now frequently generates more noise at SJP than the football - a lot of it admittedly justified. However, I've noticed that once this starts it becomes self-perpetuating - for essentially any decision against us, right or wrong.

My fault , I was a bit ill (still am) , so didn't get the crowd around me going .......... Sorry.

It's the same at most PL grounds. The away fans nearly always outsing the home supporters. It was sporadically noisy around me but as you said Nick, the early goal deflated everyone.

I quite liked the dragons though!

There was plenty of noice in the Leazes upper except for a couple of short spells. Sitting next to the away fans means that you respond to anything they sing with your own versions of the same tunes. Obviously the sound didn't travel very far. There is no way that the Liverpool fans kept that up for 90 minutes either, I think their rampant finish is colouring your memory.

They were boring f....rs, too, and shut up for most of the first half.

I was down at Anfield last season and we outasang the sad Scousers even after we went 3-0 down. I agree that it seems an 'orrible fact of the games everywhere these days is that the away fans (being mostly hardcore loyal fans who have enough money to go to all the away games, I just don't have the money) sing more than the home fans.

Toon Army came through rather loud on the webcast. Especially early on. Definitely wasn't for the full 90min, nor was the away crowd.

Me too, nick! Selective amnesia methinks.

It must be something to do with old age. I couldn't hear anyything on Sunday except then Scousers who were right behind me - but they weren't as loud as LR and his red mates.

It was noisy at times in the upper Leazes end and I heard patches from the Gallowgate but that was about it.

Certainly the Liverpool fans made a lot of noise, but their song about John Arne Riise was quite appaling. Although a bloke in front of me manipulated it quite cleverly. Sadly nobody really joined in.

The words (if I remember) are:

Hey, hey Scouser

I wanna know (ooohhhh oohh)

Where's my telly gone?
