Will we finish above the mackems?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Until 2day i was beginning to think we would definitely finish above them. We've played much harder teams, got much bigger names, Sunderland are getting booed off the pitch, fans want rid of Pr and rinally they haven't played well once this season. Pr admitted today that the better team lost. But after all this they are above us!? One thing I beleive Sunderland have is LUCK. They always scrape wins with penalties, oppisition miss penalties ect.. I have listened to each of their games on radio and I'm not being biased here but they have Never once deserved a point. Will this luck continue all season? Will we finish above them? Maybe u people don't care as much as me but half my family are mackems and every point difference in s'land + Newcastle is hell for me.

I know it is a bit out of date but look back to january/febuary this year.Look at the lack of luck that we had against Man u,leeds and liverpool.Oh and villa. Its true we have not played well but to say we are lucky is wrong.Being pedantic Bolton did not miss their penalty,we saved it! But i would settle for being lucky team-never sone man u much harm did it!

My life revolves around the saying 'I'd rather be lucky than good ' oh aye and 'this isnt getting the bairn a new coat' :-)

I think we'll finish in roughly the same place, there isn't really a lot to pick between them. Completely different teams, but in terms of points, we should be fairly equal.

I think the main difference is in the two respective defences. If you can defend well you can always scrape points together even when not playing well. The same is true at Villa.

When your defence is unreliable you tend to throw away games that you should draw or win

Yesterday evidenced that more than any other game. A poor L'Pool side who did not concede and got a lucky break. Against a NUFC team who concede goals on a regular basis and got no luck result home defeat

We've played Man U , Liverpool and Chelsea already and have taken 4 points from these games. I think we'll do OK this season , on current form we'll be around 7th spot which isn't brilliant but would make us finish higher than Sunderland. What we need is that final piece in the middle of the jigsaw which I can see Bobby Robson getting. Just hope it's sooner rather than later, so that we can have a real fight to get into Europe.
