Following the advice given in various threads I tried my hand at lying low on the beach, using my tripod with legs spread parallel to ground, rather than resting the lens on the sandy beach. I waited for the birds to come up to me.

I think that the water reflections on the breast feathers help lift an otherwise "standard" wader shot.
