Giuliani to Be Guest on 'SNL'

onight's season opener of "Saturday Night Live" will feature a last-minute special guest: Mayor Giuliani.

City Hall officials said Giuliani will deliver a "reverential" monologue in the company of uniformed personnel, including firefighters and cops. His appearance on NBC's late-night comedy program will "show the world that New York City continues," spokeswoman Sunny Mindel said.

The show's executive producer, Lorne Michaels, said this week that they wouldn't make light of the World Trade Center tragedy and that any skits that might be deemed inappropriate — such as barbs aimed at President Bush — would be nixed.

"We won't do anything that attempts to undermine President Bush's authority or that is in any way disrespectful," Michaels said.

Reese Witherspoon will host the show's 27th season kickoff, with musical guest Alicia Keys.
