More than 3,000 protesters took to the streets of Jakarta on Friday, waving portraits of Osama bin Laden, the chief suspect in this month's terror attacks in the US, and chanting anti-US slogans in the largest display of Islamic solidarity in Indonesia since the attacks.

The demonstrations reveal the growing opposition towards any US-led attack on Afghanistan and are shaping up as the first real test for President Megawati Sukarnoputri.
