My wife told me he news because I was training until mid-afternoon. Everyone at Newcastle was convinced I'd be selected, but it's not a problem. I'll just continue to get stuck in and hope that my game im proves enough to get me picked next time.

2. Have you spoken to Lemerre since joining Newcastle?

No, not at all. I don't even know if he's been to a match to watch me play.

3. You must be worried that the season won't end with you in the World Cup squad?

Not at all, I don't see why I should be worried. As long as I'm playing well for my club and enjoying playing, then I'm happy. The French coach makes his decisions and I respect them. It's not a failure not to be selected. We have a big match against Liverpool on Sunday and I'm going to do everything I can to help my team win.

4. Talking about the Premiership, how was the 1-0 win against Leicester?

In comparison with Sunday against West Ham, we were a completely different side. We played some nice football and I was voted Man of the Match. We are now joint fifth with Man Utds and Arsenal so things are going quite well.

5) Did you get many chances?

Well, I was tripped about 6 yards out but the referee didn't give a penalty..the public went a bit mad....and I put in some good centres and caused a few problems. It was a good match for us.

6) Also, you kept a clean sheet?

Yes, our defenders were much more aggressive and solid than they have been.

7) And now you have to play Liverpool!

Yes, that's what I like about England: you play good teams quite regularly. We ry to win the three points when we play at home whoever we play as we sowed against Manchester United. Hopefully we can win on Sunday, too.
