Front lens cap for a non-ASPH 35/2

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Hey.

I bought a used 35/2 non-ASPH that didn't come with any caps. The back cap is easy to buy, but I wasn't able to determine which front lens cap to buy.

It seems that the current lenses come with a hood and a hood cap. So, I'm wondering if there is a push-on style front cap for this lens? Thanks.

I have been using the old chrome push on caps with the red felt material on the inside for both my 35mm and 50mm Summicrons for a decade now. These old caps came on my old lenses of the 1950's and 60's vintage, and when I sold the lenses, I kept the caps since they are more secure than the "new and improved" type. The only thing is that the hoods have to be store separately, but I gladly accept this for the ability to not have to keep looking down to see if my cap is still there.

I would imagine these are available used from well stocked Leica outlets. Like most things "Leica" I would think these are expensive, but these are more substantial that some plastic spring loaded cap with the name brand moniker increasing the price out of proportion to the actual value.

Those wonderful old metal lens caps have been replaced by plastic cap (p/n 14268). This works on lenses that take 39mm filters and have an o.d. of 42mm. I tried it on my Rigid Summicron and original 90 Elmarit to make sure.

It should be pretty cheap.

If you have any questions about Leica parts you can call Dave Elwell at Leica in New Jersey at 1-800-222-0118 X225 (assuming you are in the U.S.).

Thanks all. I ordered a used old style 39mm push on cap from KEH.
