Gas masks

Since a lot of places seem to have run out...

I ordered from grainger.com.

Half face mask, #5F822 ($25.75) Filters pack, #4JG15 ($27.27)

The full face masks were too expensive. I intend to complete the set with tight fitting goggles. I think swimming goggles might be about right. (What I want is something as small as possible so maybe I'll drag it around with me.)

Actually, I placed two orders with Grainger. Satisfied with the first set, but it is too bulky, so I'll keep one set under my desk at work and the second in my car.

The filter pack includes two filters, turns out you need both of them (sort of like wings extending from your jowls, which is why even the half mask is pretty bulky).

Lots of different kinds of filters. This was one of the top of the line ones that Helium (as I recall) has recommended at TimeBomb. Helium said the items listed on the web site do not include the entire catalog, but if you know the item number you can still order. The 3M series 6000 and 7000 masks were recommended. The one I ordered (item 5F822) is model 7002.

I stopped by Home Depot (Greater Boston) last evening looking for tight fitting goggles. They appeared to be out (or not to carry them). I asked one of the clerks. Turns out they have been sending as much as they could to NYC for the relief workers (boy did that make me feel guilty for looking for my own set). He also said that folks had been pouring in looking for these supplies as well. He checked the shelves and found a box of ok goggles stuck behind another box, so they were out after all, but not quite what I was looking for.

Consider adding a reflective vest to your bag. Put it on when you don your mask so that the Police think twice before shooting you as a terrorist.
