Lolo not in French squad(according to dot com)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Theoretically, this should be a good thing since going to Algeria for a friendly isn't ideal. However, I hope Lolo doesn't start thinking it's because he plays for us that he hasn't been selected. The PSG fans say that his very public falling out with the PSG manager is largely to blame as he's got a reputation for being difficult and there's not much in it between him and Pires. He hasn't done his Thursday interview yet either. I hope he reacts to this in the right way..

We can only hope that when he is called , we'll be able to have enough coverage to continue without being caught out.

From the Sand-dancer's Gazette

.......But Robert could yet be required by his country for their controversial friendly with Australia in early November - a match Robson has branded as "silly."

Having just ended his disagreement with Nolberto Solano, Robson now faces a problem with his other wideman.

French coach Roger Lemerre has not selected Robert since his £10m move to Newcastle in the summer. But Lemerre is well aware of the impact the former Paris St Germain star has already made on Tyneside, and there's every chance he'll be given the opportunity to add to his nine caps in one of these experimental games.

Although there are no Premiership games scheduled for November 11 when France play Australia, it means Robert would still face a 46- hour round flight - and he would hardly return to Tyneside in the best of shape to face Fulham at Craven Cottage on November 18. Robson said: "Laurent Robert deserves to be in the French squad. I don't think there's any doubt about that. "He's a class act, he's a high quality player, has great technical ability and great expertise.

"But I just think going to Australia is a silly match. Yes, the French are World and European champions and yes, they have to play friendly games.

"But I think to take players from Europe all the way to Australia for a friendly is tantamount to being ridiculous. "It's asking impossible things of players. It's just quite an amazing fixture at this time of the season."

Have to agree with Mr Robson on this one. Going to Australia is a bit daft when most of the players, both French and Australian play in England. They should have the game at Highbury or Elland road.

I was going to say the same Rik. How many of the Australian players actually play in Australia? Our Aussie correspondents could presumably tell us.

Depending on the Aussie squad,

Schwarzer, Muscat, Okon, Vidmar, Moore, Tiatto, Skoko, Kewell, Viduka all regulars play in UK, in Europe also Aloisi, Emerton and a couple of others in Germany and Italy.

The strongest squad generally only has 3 - 4 Aussie based players.

Imo, the PL Clubs should get together and tell Monsieur Lemerre and the French FA to sod off.

Have to say I disagree clarky, not like me is it?

They may have picked the wrong opponents and wrong venue, however they MUST see it as another warm up. Also it brings a good team to a place which is trying to boost football. As I said venue and timing may be off, however it has not just been announced, we knew about it a year ago.
