Whats up with ICDeadPeople?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

They've got a message on their site saying that due to unforseen circumstances the site won't be updated again until monday 1st Oct!!?? Have all their staff gone home or something?

They've also cancelled the chat with Farrington for "technical reasons"....more likely cos everyone has gone home :))

It's amazingly worse that our officious web s*^te - all their flashy page headers take ages to reload.

Come back Chronicle and Journal online! All is forgiven!!!

As for the official s*ite, try right clicking on the link you want to see, then "open link in new window" (or something like that). They've conveniently(?!) put most of their flashy cr@p into the frame headers. The content of any interest downloads quickly once you break the frame. ;-)

1.30pm Update from Guardian website:

Trinity Mirror is slashing the number of jobs in its digital division as it scales back investment in its network of regional websites.

Staff were told about job cuts at a meeting at 11am today and those who remain are expected to be redeployed into its regional newspaper business.

The company has decided to reintegrate its digital operations in the mainstream newspaper business.

Up to one in three jobs are likely to go, although Trinity Mirror refuse to confirm how many redundancies there will be until they have consulted with staff.

The company operates a network of 13 regional sites including icScotland, icLiverpool and icNewcastle.

In order to slash costs, responsibility for the sites will be handed back to the relevant regional papers with inevitable job cuts. With the regional divisions under pressure from the parent company to streamline their revenues, it is likely most will make severe cuts.

The sites will probably take most of their content from the newspapers and maintain a skeleton staff to update the sites and take care of the technical side.

Errrr.....and how is that any different to the way the site has been running all along? Other than maybe now they'll lose the flash and graphics and get back to pages that download quickly. :-)

Ciara, I'd apply for a job if I were you. Tell them that you could maintain the website single handed, meaning they cut sack 28 employees. You could even remain in the US to stop any of the disgruntled workers from getting their hands on you.

But Rik, I want OUT of the US. So that wouldn't do me any good. ;-)

You would think that you woud be able to do a citizen swap wouldn't you? For instance, I know a bloke that has been back and forwards to the US on umpteen ocasions and would love to swap his geordie citizinship to become a yank.

surely if you could find someone that wanted to swap nationalities with you then it should be allowed and everyone would be happy.

I've been saying that for years!

If you had a sex change, went bald and let half your teeth go rotten and had the "softie" plastic surgery you would still find it difficult to pass for Barry. (Who can be seen at www.fugly.com)

Now that's a potential chat up line if I ever saw one, Rik ;-)
