Bojangles and the man in the Hole.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Nine times out of ten when Ron (you do Ron Ron) Atkinson has to pick MOTM he invariably picks the `Man in the Hole`. Ok tonight it was Jari Litamen , cannot argue with the decision even though the Finn had been subbed by Fowler. You can gaurantee he will wax lyrical when his personal fav `Scolesy` is playing , remember him once doing the same for YKD, Merson and others, does he ever take into account defenders performances. After tonight toons prep for Sunday against the Pool is obvious, lets get the pressure on Vignall and Rilse, they are the weakness, forget route one down the middle , give Al a break.

Heskey say aye those who agree, how this guy is the automatic choice for selection to lead the line for England is beyond me, he is not a natural finisher, he has no football brain ,restricted movement, his first touch is diabolical, heading average, may have pace, I am still looking, work rate ok,strong yes but so was Geoff Capes, nah he is not as good as Shearer and he is down the list, bliddy Sutton is a better option if SGE wants that type , or do you disagree with me?

*Super-Kev no disrespect but your man`s time will come eventually.

* When and if they ressurect the `B` international fixtures !!!!

Hi ho silver :-)

Shearer was interviewed in the SKY freebie magazine (me mam has the devil's digital tv, and Al is taking up a pundit post). He rated Heskey and Owen as a partnership that could be very successful. On one hand you could say, "well, Al never does really criticise other professionals - just supports them, or says nothing". Maybe. Buff is right (what, again?!) in the failings in Heskey's game, but I do see him improving. Certainly he's improved leaps and bounds since leaving O'Neill's capable management, and an international pairing who play in the same club will nearly always do well.

As for the man in the hole...I wish Red Ron would disappear back into his - together with his ManU tinted spectacles and video box set of the red dweevils

While it's very dangerous to criticise him three days ahead of playing agaisnt us, I agree with you Buff about Heskey - he isn't international material, and I doubt he will ever score goals at that level. He might be a different proposition if he was better in the air. At best, he provides nuisance value for YMO.

I don't rate Sutton all that highly either, and don't think he is mobile enough for international footy.

The problem is there aren't many alternatives. There isn't a foil (ie. a Quinny) at that level for SKP and without that he is very limited. AC doesn't have any track record that would support bringing him back in against Greece.

I suspect SGE will simply play Fowler instead of YMO alongside Heskey, and hope Scholes will be able to get forward often enough to create problems in their box.
