Lense hoods

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I have 50mm 1.4 summilux titanium lense with a built-in lense hood, which in my opinion is inadequate. Is there an after market lense hood that will fit this lense? Thanks Joe

Have you been actually having trouble with flare ruining your images taken with that lens? I have had no problem with any of the newer lenses with respect to most types of flare, even when I forget to extend the built in the hood all the time, that is why I ask. I try to use as deep of a hood as possible with the older lenses that were not coated as well, but have to admit at times I even go "hoodless" with my 35 Summaron and it seldom if ever results in washed out or low contrast images from flare.

Go to a Contax dealer and ask her to show you the hoods for the G2 45mm Planar and 90mm Sonnar. The titanium finish on those hoods should match your lens nicely. If you decide the Planar's hood is too short then buy the longer one for the Sonnar and have a machinist cut off half an inch. Serious!
