Converting RealMedia files(*.rm) to Windows Media(*.wmv)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hi! I need to know how I can convert RealMedia files(*.rm) to Windows Media (*.wmv). I've tried to convert them by using Windows Media Encoder which is available free but it doesn't support the format. Please help!

To my knowledge RealMedia's codec is a licensed and heavily protected commodity and is not generally available, especially one that will convert FROM Real to something else.

Until a hacker becomes interested in Real or somebody develops a video screen capture utility, your only bet is probably to capture it on the screen with your camera and convert that to another format.

Actually, there already is a software which can convert .rm to .avi It's called TINRA. Once u convert to .avi u can then use the WM Encoder to make .wmv It's a long process but that's how u would do it.

Btw.. There *IS* a video screen capture utility for PC's called "SnagIt", which is available at techsmith.com... However, I would recommend using TINRA for converting .rm to .avi or other.

i used tiunra and found it to be very nice, but there is a problem with my trying to conver my anime. it is too big for the program to handle like a 30 minute file. if anyone can find a way around this with tinra pleez email me at syco_mage@hotmail.com

there is a better software called (EO vidoe) .. by the way .. tinra didn't work with me, the avi file it creates is audio only (no vedio) even though i have installed divx 5 pro.

apparently you have to use a male-male audio cable to 'leave the sound card and go back into it'... I too was looking for info and found this solution for aldanger's problem... hope this helps!

No answer yet. I am here coz I am searching ways to convert *.rmj to *.mp3. after hours of browsing, I realized that rm is not a open standard, no free codec. someone suggested there is one from www.real.com. I have no luck finding it. If someone can locate it, I am happy to know. Cheers

Use this link http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm And download this program: dBpowerAMP Music Converter Release 9a it's freeware. By downloading some add-on codes (it's all on that link) you will be able to convert over 30 different files
