flight plans ??

Anyone else out there be flying soon? My partners' sister flew from Minneapolis to Chicago to Ireland a few days after the airlines restarted service. Brave lady. We have vacation plans from Portland to Houston to Tampa in a couple of months. All this gave us pause but it seems a poor trade off to worry so much about dying that we have to give up living. I believe flying is still far safer than other modes of travel. This terrible act will surely put air travel in a bad light but realistically, if we would compare the carnage on our highways everyday it would be even more difficult to go for a drive. Must admit I am preparing myself mentally should something occur. I'm going to see if I can assist any hijackers in taking their 'last' breath long before they hit the ground, should that occur. I really liked the pilots' preflight talk stated over on countryside forum. Should the need arise, they were going to take back control, immediately , from any would be hijackers.

I am with you jz........have no intentions of stopping living. haiti is calling me. There is no way I can just pick up a phone and talk to my haitian friends and I know that this has them upset. They have no vision of just how big our country is and think everyone is from new york. Way up in the mountains the children know how to say "take me to new york".

Air travel is probably about 2000 times safer right now than it has ever been. If you had to pick a safe time, this would probably be it.

I'm not going anywhere 'cause I'm holding onto what little cash I have right. But hey, I've had a lot of vacations and time off lately, anyhow.

Happy Trails!

I'm not any more scared to fly than before, but all the new security stuff and the increased time it takes at the airport now would discourage me from going anywhere by plane, if I had a choice. I realize its all necessary, I just hate waiting around, and waiting in lines. I'm sure not gonna change how I do anything else that I can think of; not the least bit scared of dying anyway. Never could figure out why some people spend their whole lives trying to be 'safe', and missing out on life in the process. What's the point?

I thought there might be bargains on flights, so I checked to see the fares to Hawaii (my favorite cousin lives there, we've been pals since we were about ten) for January. Ha! They're about double of what they were last year. So I'm not going to sign up for anything now. And otherwise, I have nowhere I want to fly at this time. It's hard to get away for more than a handful of days with all these animals, so I tend to go places within driving distance.

I think if I did fly, I'd probably be a bit nervous, but I think I'd still go.

Well, I'm a just a big coward when it comes to flying...always have been even before the wtc event! I have never been on a plane and don't intend to start now. Yes, I realize that it's lots safer than traveling by car. But we actually don't have anyplace that we enjoy going that we can't drive there! And we always travel the rural roads...both for the scenery AND the fact that it's much safer on rural roads than on highways. So, go ahead, tell me what a big chicken I am :-)!!
