Monday morning blues part one

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

That was the team I picked apart from Barton/Griffin (what's going on with Griffin?) and I expected good things from that team.
I'm still a little shocked at how bad we were, I’ll just discuss one point.
The first goal was pure cak: a short corner to a feller on the edge of the box – did you see the space and time he had to look up and place the ball on the head of guess who inside the six yard box. No one is gonna tell me that was acceptable because it was not. It was p*ss poor stuff. Surely they can do better than that why can they not do better than that?
I'm trying not to swear and I can't bring myself to discuss the other individual and collective rottenness that I saw with my own eyes.

Exactly. Just what is going on with Griffin ? He wasn't even on the bench. Why Ameobi and Lua Lua in what everybody expected to be a difficult game ? I'd have thought an extra out and out defender would have made more sense.

What pees me off as much as anything is the complete unfathomability of what went wrong. It was a complete clone of quite a few of last season's travesties, and it's not being able to pinpoint a cause that does my head in.

There was no reassurance whatsoever in that apology for a performance. I mean, were Wham really that good or is that the real Newcastle United ? God help us if it is.

We were shite yesterday, enough said... All teams have their off games and as long as we win on Wednesday then Sunday will be a bad memory.

What I really want to talk about is Wor Bobby and his bumbling with the right back position. In my opinion Barton was at fault for 2 goals yesterday. The first was barton playing his masterful dribbling skills in front of the box and then losing the ball and it going out for a corner... inevitable result.. GOAL.. Then.. I dont know how many times its been said on here but when Barton comes up against a skillful attacker he's pants. As soon as CannyO got the ball I knew what the end result would be. If Griffin was playing he would have tackled him outside the area. Which brings me to my point..Bobby has got to decide who is the main man at RB, I really feel for Griffin. Plays well against the champions and then is dropped from the side entirely, not even on the subs bench. This lad is young and skillful, but his confidence must be zero at the moment. Come on Bobby, we know it and you know it, Barton is a SUB- standard player so use him as such.

Disclaimer: If Griffin was injured yesterday then I apologise but my feelings still stand. AM

Apparently Bobby played Barton so Griffin would be rested for Wednesday.

If so, that begs the question of Bobby's policy on resting players? As Dougal pointed out, he played Hughes into the ground, as has happened with other players. Played Shearer against Brentford, knowing full well AS would be needed against Manure, in spite of saying a week earlier that AS was a month off full fitness. Am I the only one completely confused? We've got enough players fit now, that we can use rotation to some degree, so lets use it and maybe see some of our continual injury problems clear up.
