I'm creating SVCD with Studio DV and the quality sucks?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hello everyone, Let me start from the begining, my .AVI source is a Panasonic, the software that I'm using to convert .AVI to .MPEG2 is Studio DV from Pinnacle system. I started to produce SVCD because the quality of my VCD was not good, indeed was very, but very poor. Now that I'm producing SVCD and the jumpiness is amazing on my DVD player, wich is also a Panasonic VCD compatible. I have no idea about what else should I do, my goal with all this is to create a SVCD with the same or better quality than a VCR. I will appreciate any help about how to produce a SVCD that can be played on a DVD player!

Thanks.

I don't encode to make SVCDs (I record MPEG-2 directly with my ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon card), so I can't help you there. You might try asking for help at network54.com/Hide/Forum/70438, which is a very good SVCD forum. All DVD players do not support SVCD and those that do may not support it very well. You could check www.vcdhelp.com and see what problems may have been reported for SVCD and your DVD player. If you do post to the SVCD forum, please give a LOT more info than you did here. One of the problems inexperienced people have when they post is that they don't give enough information. You should list all of the following: your CPU (speed and make), your amount of memory, any capture cards you use, all software you use, settings you used when recording your video, etc. The more information you provide, the more likely you are to get help. Right now I could guess that you have a LOT of potential problems and I have no idea if any of them are to blame because I don't know much of what you did.

Studio DV real sucks when it generate MPEG1 and MPEG2. Just use the software TMPGEnc to encode your AVI files to MPEG (1/2) before burning as VCD or SVCD. The difference in quality is HUGE. For more info, goto www.vcdhelp.com (much better site)
