Nobby's Passport Saga (Part XII)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

[Yawn] The Sunday Sun's lead back page article this morning concerns the results of their investigation into this long-running issue.

Their worrying conclusion is that Nobs could be deported if he is found guilty of having possessed a false passport - the validity of his Greek passport now being the subject of a Police enquiry. The S/Sun says their investigation has concluded that his credentials for qualifying for a Greek passport are false.

Solano played for the Toon for more than two years without a Work Permit on the basis that he held a Greek passport, and was therefore a EU national. Subsequently, when this whole issue originally blew up, NUFC re-registered him as a Peruvian and successfully applied for another Work Permit.

However, an immigration consultant has told the S/Sun that Solano could be ordered out of Britain regardless of his new circumstances, if he is found to have previously obtained permission to stay here by deception.

All rather worrying.

A Passport to hell?

Nice to see the local press running scare stories before a big game in London. Typical of that paper.

My thoughts exactly Lynda when I read it. It's almost as if Farrington wants Nobby kicked out.

However, one thing in the article made me laugh - the immigration consultant is called Michael Aspell, so presumably before being kicked oot, we can expect Wor Nobby to be a recipient of a Big Red Book (as opposed to a little Green Card??). Oh yes - the name of Aspell's company? Workpermit.com. Their webpage can be found here. I wonder how long it took out "investigative journo" to find that site?

Farrington is beneath contempt. He doesn't even have the courtesy to reply to correspondence.

On the basis of todays's performance, I'll clap him all the way to the airport.

I'll admit to being a bit upset at the moment though. Ask me again when he scores the winner against Liverpool...

This is bound to have affected the performance of Solano, it would have been a contributing factor in his bad performance on Sunday. Put yourself in his shoes , how would you feel?

The Sunday sun is supposed to suport our local teams. I am going to E ,mail them telling them that this kind of journalism, isn't what is expected of a regional newspaper, and that I won't ever be buying that publication again.

If that's the case Rik (and it may well be) then why did YBR pick him? And it doesn't excuse his pathethic tap to Robert for a freekick. Last week, Robert took responibility and scored a glorious goal direct from the kick. Prior to that, and again on Saturday, Nobby got in the way and rolled it barely the legal distance, by which time Wham were on Robert like the proverbial rash. A complete waste of time. Passport prolems or not, that is inexcusable.

The point is, his mind may not have been on the job because of all this carry on . He may also have been awake all night wondering if he is is going to be deported.

When I play 5-a-side I lose myself in it for an hour, regardless of work/home/money/deportation issues. I have no time to day dream as I am totally immersed in the pattern of the game, of the movement of the ball.

In training on a Monday, if I did such a thing, then maybe it's different but really come on, we are grasping at straws if we are blaming a Sunday Sun article for Solano's performance yesterday (this season).

Does anybody seriously believe Nobby woke up on Sunday morning, read about his possible deportation in the S/Sun, and then went out worried to death and played cr@p? Give me a break.

If he obtained his Greek passort through deception he did it consciously, and has known about it all along. He was presumably party to the Toon realising he was potentially exposed over this, and also party to then reapplying for a Work Permit based on Peruvian nationality.

If there is indeed anything to be judged guilty of, then our star right winger knows every nuance of what has transpired over many months, and will be dealt with accordingly.

Frankly, he has been cr@p for ages, and his concern over losing a very highly paid job, and deported back to Peru, may well have affected his performances over an extended period - but come on, don't blame a local newspaper for any aspect of our dismal performance yesterday.

Sorry but still not convinced. I don't agree that he's been crap for ages. He is still in my eyes one oif the best players that we have. Yes he has an off game every now and then, and Yes he was the second worst player on the pitch on Sunday, but his off games are few and far between and have usually come when he's been in the headlines over his International duties / driving offence / or passport duties.

I often stay awake at nights worrying about one thing or another, I certainly couldn't play football very well if I hadn't had a good nights sleep.

Consider this,,,,,, The Sunday sun phone Nobbies missus on Saturday night telling her that they have evidence that he has used forged papers and could well get deported, and has she any comment to make for next mornings edition. She then rings Nobby telling him that he's in the news again. Would you have a good nights sleep if you were him?

Rik, he's had an off game since the away leg of the InterToto final...however, the fact that this was two days after the first "new" reports about his passport does suggest that he IS being affected by all the speculation, particularly since his form before then had been mint. Dropping him normally helps him produce the goods so I think he should be warming the bench on Wednesday.
