PLEASE HELP - Dreamcast vcd boot disk

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

This may seem like a dumb question but.... The VCD boot disk which u can use on a Dreamcast to play VCDs, well i was firstly wondering how it works. I heard u actually have to swap cds at one point....

Also, is it possible when using the boot disk, to fast forward, rewind and pause the VCD using say the dreamcast controller??

If you mean the Xing vcd player for the DC the playback quality truly blows. There is a horiontal wobble and the frame rate is low. Gypplay plays back much much better, but doesn't support the vcd format, you would have to copy the .dat files off the vcd and make a gypplay cd. one advantage of this is you could make the cd bootable in the DC, simply put the cd in it will boot and play without any further swaping. the play back quality is far superior, but i noticed that CBR encoded mpegs sometimes breakup on transitions, so i reencode them to VBR with TMPEGENC and they work a treat, and I've done quite a few. (all the software mentioned can be easily found with a few web searches)
