It's Friday, Let's Have a Heated Debate

"Meanwhile, Robson has had some encouraging news on the injury front. Speed is due to resume training either tomorrow or on Sunday, and Cort and Dyer are both pleasing their specialists" Taken from the Ronnie. Question? Do we want to see Speed back in place of Acuna, where would we play Cort, and who would be displaced for Dyer?

Ok, lets play 4-3-3 with Big Al and the Boy Bellamy up front and have YKD sitting behind them as a Beardsley type player. Although if he is to do this he will have to learn where the goals are. Have Solano and Robert in the not so wide positions and any one from the rest of the squad as the man in the middle. I'd go for speed, as I think the General is getting on a bit now. Saying that his recent performances may warrent a place. I'm probably talking out of my arse here as I've just got back on the net after being on me hols and I've not had a chance to catch up on all things NUFC, yet.

Our squad has done us proud so far. Our first eleven will rise from this healthy completion to win us games and silver pots. Anybody want to debate the opposite of this position?

Acuna should keep his place on merit. Cort would be on the bench instead of Shola. Dyer would replace Solano. Solano would drop back to become our mecurial attacking right-back.

Simple.

Mick, talking out of your arse is a prerequisite for posting on this site. Please don't attempt to disturb the equilibrium. Personally I would play Lee until he has at least one stinker, and reward Acuna's efforts, committment and performance by letting him keep his place. Cort will have to fight to get his place back (I'm not a big fan) and maybe step in follwing the inevitible Shearer/Bellamy injury. Maybe we could do a Tranmere and play Dyer in a 12 man line up before we get rumbled. Otherwise I'm not sure where he would slot in, other than for Lee (who will also get the inevitible injury)

and Cort and Dyer are both pleasing their specialists

Dyer's been showing Cort around the Quayside then?

Is the curb that high or is this gutter lower than average? ;-)))

Back on topic...
They should all have to fight for their places. It would be nice if everyone is fit at the same time to have options for different situations. Or even rotate players when we're facing fixture congestion. But I can't imagine us ever being so injury-free as to really have that kind of headache.

I think that part of last season's problem was that no one had to fight for their place so I'm with Ciara on this one.

I agree that Acuna should hold onto his place even when Speed is fully fit, at least until it's obvious he gone off the boil, and that means not just one bad game.

Speed can always be used to come on if necessary, but I'd be a bit peed off if I was Acuna and Speed got straight back in.

But I'm not Gary Speed's biggest fan, so what do I know ?

Keep a midfield four whatever. No need to go back to the narrow mf - and I don't think playing Dyer in a free role justifies it.. If he's going to play in central mf, let him play deep and do his share of tackling, and let the wingers...er, wing.

Don't think Dyer's got the build to break up attacks. I think somehow we have to fit Dyer, Bellamy and Robert into the same setup.

With those three running at you, you have to abandon ship.

But I'm three parts peuced, so what do I know ?

I am stone sober, Pete Bill, but I agree with you. I would also favour Cort and Shearer up front with the triad at the ready to burst through. Solano to make up the mid field and hopefully the back strengthened with the inclusion of Distin and the maturing of the younger ones. My immediate problem is to decide whether to make the 150 mile trip down to Ft. Lauderdale -- the nearest point where I can see the WHU game.
