Half day closing, is it Rik ? You're hogging the air waves today, and no mistake. :-))

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

North Shields is deserted this afternoon,(well atleast my shop is) haven't had a customer since I had my extra hot Donner Kebab meat Pizza with extra onions and Garlic, half an hour ago.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Whatever you do, don't light up or it could be half day closing all day. :-)

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Busy spell, just had 4 customers in 4 minutes, A kettle, packet of Bin bags, Nobby Solao/shearer shirt, packet of pokemon cards / metal tape measure and an "I got kicked out of the scouts for eating a brownie " Baccy tin. Grand total £19.55 ........ be able to retire to la maga golf resoprt if this continues.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Rik,

What shop in North Shields do you work in, I lived there for the first 18 years of me life before I moved on like!!

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

It's a small "I sell everything from Beanie babies to Hoover bags" kind of shop at the top of bedford street. Stangley named "RIK'S" . It used to be Stan Swans sports shop, before I moved in 4 years ago. Before that I had Three shops, called Livewire in Whitley Bay, Wallsend and North Shields (indoor market).

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Ok, you coaxed me into it - but only to 'fess up as a lurker. Trainspotting AC/DC manc........not!

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

I new there would be some lurkers out there.

How long have you been doing it for Iain?

The lurking that is ,and where are you at?

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

I've been checking in for about three months now - I actually found it through the link on your ntlsports.com site. But seeing as how it's confession time - I used to occasionally lurk on the old communicata site, so lots of the names are familiar to me. I'm in Western Canada (Okanagan valley in BC)

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

I've been meaning to put a final "this site is extinc, thanks for visiting " page up on the old site for months, but never got round to it. And I still get 3 or 4 password equests each week so presumed that, there would be a first time caller or two hanging around.

Were you from Tyneside origionally Iain ?

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Hello and welcome!

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Iain
We have no objection whatever to stowaways so now you're out in the open, welcome aboard.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

I'm from Glasgow originally, but my Mum & all her family are from Wallsend, so I spent quite a bit of time there - even went to The Buddle for a while. My Grandad used to take me to St. James' and regale me with stories of the glory days.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

I have to confess to having "lurked" on here for probably 5 years or more (pre comminicata), and I do mean intensive lurking. How I haven't been fired, I don't know. I've never posted anything and have always viewed it as a kind of soap opera. I left Newcastle about 7/8 years ago and have been living in London. I now only get to a couple of games a year (how sad). Rik, your shop sounds really interesting.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Welcome former lurkers! Seems like a good time to re-open Greenspun Arms. The recently de-lurked get in the first 2 rounds! :-)

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Two rounds ? I'm not coming here again.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Dave, I think 'coz there's two of us we can get away with one each

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Dave & Iain - warm welcome to you both. Any contributions you felt able to make would be welcomed - imo we need some new blood on here, if you'll pardon the expression!

Soap Opera indeed!! ;o{)

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Fame at last

I'm a soap star

JR?, Dirty den? Nah more like Abu from the simpsons Kwiky Mart.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

apu rik.....

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Clarky. Don't take offence re. soap opera gag. I wasn't for a minute suggesting that this place was full of drama queens.

So that's halves of shandly all round then, eh.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

A half of shandly is like a half of shandy but it is even more of a girls drink.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

.... nee offence taken marra. It was a good line actually, and when I think of it there are one or two drama queens on here - including moi occasionally, when I get on my high-horse! ;o{)

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Having lurked for the past 4 months I now feel safe, after the previous two lurkers have done so, to admit to being here. One problem; as there are other Nicks on the board, do I have to come up with a new name?

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Oye, Clarky, Hands off , I found em, they're in my clique now.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

I only join cliques if you get a hat.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Bliddy hell! "Rik's ex-lurkers clique" Where can we order the t-shirts & the monogrammed coasters? Riks's Relics!!! Come on Dave & Nick - we might have to climb back in the closet:D

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

You'll have to ask Rik, Dave - apparently you're in his clique. God help you!

Big welcome also to Nick XIV!

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Welcome NICK,

Wey hey, three new lurkers for my Clique.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

I'm scared now.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Well I'm going home now and won't be back to front the Riks's new lurkers clique , until Monday morning.

Iain as second in command, would you welcome all of the NEW NEW members that join this prolificlly growing sect over the weekend?

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Thanks for inviting me into the clique Rick.. I f I'm a member of this clique, can i call myself Rick's Nick?

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Nick, only if your typo's are are bad as Ricks. Otherwise you'll have to form your own clique. As it is, most of us on here are still trying to get a fix on Ricks unique stream of consciousness.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

As long as you follow the Rik trait of blanket posting on all threads withut the use of a spil;l Chicker, and putting Capital letters and " , marks all over the place, paying special attention to being as abnoxious as possible to all the clever blokes on here , then you're welcome to call yourself Ricks Nick.

But Nick from ????? would probably be better.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

For some reason I'm sitting here expecting to get thrown in the sand pit (Heaton School reference).

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

do any of you new lads wanna go "cock or hen".

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

OK as the official Deputy Rik - it is now my duty to disable my spill chooker

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

I go off to do some work and come back to find a 3rd lurker outed. Another round of drinks for us all then. This could become a kind of pyramid drinking scheme. The more lurkers we out, the drunker we all get. wheeee %-}

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Rik with a shop in North Shields! That's my home town! Aaaaaaah I'm all homesick now.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Welcome lurkers!

Hmm Lynda, I understand you became sick when you found out Rik has a shop in your home town :p

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Welcome Iain, dave + Nick. Keep posting, Clarky's right we do need new blood.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

I've 'lurked' for about four years although I must confess to posting on the occasion of O Brien's signing saying how worried I was. Of course he made me look a right t*t in the next game with THAT goal. I'm in sunny Ashington (surrounded by Makems) and a ST holder in the Gallowgate since moving from Bournemouth in the late eighties. As a kid just about endured the classic Glen Keeley era although I must confess to being more mesmerized by watching the 'gob' on the coppers coats than watching the match ,or listening to my Dad tell me about the classic forward line comprising entirely of left wingers. Shame on me!

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Welcome back 'live' - as it were - Wendy.

Does anyone know the full story of how we managed to get a mackem enclave in Eshington of all places?

I'm sure I read somewhere that at some point 'back when' there was a pit closure in the Durham coalfield, at the same time the mining activity in Ashington was expanding, and a lot of mackem miners relocated.

Is this true, or is it simply an urban legend concocted to rationalise the appearance of barbers poles 'up north'? Anyone know the details?

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Why has this thread cheered me up no end ? Maybe it's just the proximity to the weekend - nee mair work for a couple of days, and Wham Sunday, a game we will win hands down, and not before time.

Well ? You wanted a heated argument did you not ?

Oops. Different thread.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

I'm worried. That reference to "Rik sex-lurkers" is just not the sort of thing we want on here. We'll be banned from The Greenspun Arms if the landlord finds out.

PS. Welcome lurkers - am I too late for a free beer?

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

...... aye - it's your round! ;o{)

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Iain, I,m in Calgary, (Mrs. Pete is from Kimberley BC) Been here 21 years, if you ever come to Calgary, give me an e-mail, the address on here is correct. I,ll buy you a real pint. Where in the Okanagan are you, Penticton, Kelowna, Oliver???

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Hi Pete, I'm in Kelowna - been here for about 8 years now. Before that I was in Edmonton for about 15 yrs - but that's OK......... I'll still talk to you. Thanks for the offer. I'll be sure & take you up on it whenever I'm back on the prairies

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Hey I forgot - you give me a yell too if you're gonna be over this way. Aah Kimberly! A bunch of us went skiing there one New Years a while ago. It was about -30 & I had a spectacular wipe-out right under the lift.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Clarky Don't know much about the urban legend theory but I suspect that it's got a lot to do with the Makems free tickets to schools policy. Before Superkev gets hot under the collar and issues denials I have kids at three different schools and they've all been offered tickets at some stage. Of course I have threatened to disown them if they take up the offer. I just wish the Toon would do something similar to get them young. And of course it should be made obligatory for the coppers to watch the match to provide entertainment. After all it got me hooked! (Only kidding!)

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2001

Brilliant news - couple of days away from the BBS, and I come back to no less that three and a half (as Wendy as made the occasional posting) new crew! Welcome one and all - this is just what we need. (:o)

BTW - `Soap opera`? Great description!(:o)

-- Anonymous, September 22, 2001

I have lurked since Communicata days probably about 4 years. Born and bred in Alnwick with Black & white striped eyes.

Season Ticket holder in pre Keegan (playing that is) days, Now live in the soft Southern Suburbs of Surrey.

Called the box office on Wednesday and amazingly found tickets available for tomorrow. Look out for me, I will be the one wearing a black and white striped shirt.
