Response to Government

Not me. But I would welcome better cockpit doors/locks on airplanes. And I do think the idea is reasonable that if they get approval to monitor someone's phone, the approval should follow that person and not just the phone line.

Response to Government

NOT ME

To PARARHRASE Ben Franklin:"He who gives up liberty for security deserves neither."

The government is already so involved in our lives that we cannot even use the toilet without voluminous pages of government regulations telling us how we can do it. We all know how well the low water use toilet works, if it is flushed 3 times it may be ok, but then you are using more water than the original. But I guess that doesn't really matter because the people who came up with this crap, no pun intended, really care about us and feel our pain. Think of all the stuff you need to have "approved" before you can get a septic system installed. I know, just did it a couple years ago.

The government is involved in EVERY aspect of our lives and they only seem to want to get more involved every day. We are treated to the herd mentality, where if it is good enough for one of us it is good enough for all of us. I totally disagree with that type of thinking.

For example, Bush's plan to use churches to help with social work. It may sound good, but any time the government gets its fingers in the pie, all must follow their rules. I for one do not want to have the government telling churches what they can and cannot do. I am happy my church has chosen not to accept any government money. If they hadn't, I would have been gone.

The only government involvement in my life that I favor is the government footing the bill for airplane security, rather than the airlines. Law enforcement should be a government matter.

Talk to you later.

Response to Government

The sad thing is that people actually believe that more government involvement would result in better security. It's like the "drug free" and "gun free" signs they put up in front of schools - pure symbolism for show that makes everyone think they're actually doing something. The result of more government involvement will be what it always is....more shackles on the law abiders and no effect on the criminals.

Response to Government

Better security vs. freedom from governmental scrutiny? Freedom, hands down.

I think that the government means well, I just recognize the fact that when bad things happen, they happen to people, not governments. And bad things WILL CONTINUE to happen. I just need the government to help out with the aftermath; I can take care of myself and my family, thanks for the offer Uncle Sam.

Response to Government

i'm sure i'm gonna get somebody here angry but sobeit.i think, if it were not for the government we wouldn't be in this predicament.i'm named after my uncle who was killed in korea.my eldest son is named after me & he. i thank god for the people like my uncle ,that gave thier lives for all of us.i feel sorrow & thankfullness to those parents, wives, husbands & children that lost one who gave all. i just hope that the president knows exactly who the guilty one is,not just making points for his own political gain. it seems to me a missing child goes on missing, with no trace. however we're sure that bin laden is responsible for the twin towers disaster. why do they hate americans.what did we as americans do to promote this hatred & what did the government do to promote it? mine won't run , but...... i will do whatever it takes to keep my son out of harms way ,we have the same name.

Response to Government

As I see it, The airlines needed better security before this happen. I remember many programs on how simple it would be for someone to get in to our secure areas.Airports and other areas alike. The gov. has been in control of our borders so far, are they secure, No. Do you know how many areas that have biological weapons that are not secure? I know a few in this state. where are the secure measures there? How did they get into this U.S. with false papers? Is not the gov. in control of the borders and immagration? A question comes to mind here? I heard that bush is going to use social security to cover the cost of our little war and to help the business and victims to recover. What was said not less than 6 months ago about S.S. not having any surplus? Now bush is not afraid to use all 167 billion surplus in the account. I Say help our people but the other areas need to find loans on their own. Most of the businesses were a office of the main branch. There was also offices of other countrys there to, do we give them loans too. And the question? where did this surplus come from?... The paper said that bush's economic plan was in trouble and would have to go to S.S. to get the funds needed to keep our head above water, and the congress would not allow him to do this. correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't this bush's platform? No touching the S.S. I don't think making more victims will help, either here or in another country, There must be a better way to handle this.Isn't there a verse somewhere that says "Pride goith before the fall". Our Laws are to protect all, we don't even know if this person is the one that did the crime for sure. we need to slow down and get this right. There is a lot at stake here, the U.S. included.Lets get our security up to snuff and make sure that we are not victims again. Find for sure who did this crime, then get this person or persons in our court's, try them by proxy if we have to, then if found guilty, send a death squad in after them. I know that people will always disagree with each other, thats part of life. the opinions wrote here are mine I don't expect others to agree, this is how I see it. Lexi

I could deal with National I.D. cards because I already carry picture i.d.-driver's lisence-I don't think it would do any go-forgers can come up with anything the Gov. can. I don't like them listening in on my phone calls-though they would probably just get some good pickle recipies and I don't like them monitering credit cards. Here's a thing- On the day of the Columbine Shootings, in the back of my car I had a black trench coat-hey! it was raining! A box of plumbing supplies and pipes-Hey! we were building a house! and a bag of the type ferilizer used in some explosives-Hey! I was planting my garden, plus I had just cashed a pay check and needed to pay some guys for some work so I had over $500 in cash-a very rare thing for me but what if I had been pulled ove last Tuesday-or the day Oklahoma was bombed? and instead of a Scandinavian last name I happened to have an Arabic Name?

Yes diffently need more airline security, but for the rest....I don't know.
