NEW FORUM - For Preps

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Current News : One Thread

It's called Current News - Homefront Preparations. It's passworded at the moment but the password will be removed once we have some posts in there and people can see what sort of threads we're after. If wackos decide to cause problems, then we'll simply reinstate the password. It's the same as here--defiant. We can figure out categories later.

Thanks, Meems.

Okay, it's looking good. Thanks to all who are posting. I've removed the password so, please, admins, be on alert. If a troll busts in, delete their threads up to about three or four times, then put the password back on.

I can't get in there passworded or not.

I think you were the one that needed the link written out so you could copy it and paste it into the browser?

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2001

Oh damn, Helen, I'm so sorry. It won't be long before your industry is back to normal, surely. Just saw Greenspan and he seems to think things will normalize fairly soon, so it must be true.

(((Helen)))) sending prayers and good thoughts your way!

Git great Link.....if this is not passworded..maybe I can link to this one because we are talking of adding a preps forum at IC...and if I link here, some may come to here, and add more posts..just a thought. let me know, and we can place a note up at IC that the prep forum will be here... or I will have a prep forum and share back and forth.

here I am trying to figure out what the others were talking about, and then I saw your handle.

sorry to hear about that. I sure hope you find something else soon.

Think of all the time you'll have to get things together at home...

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2001

Yo, watch it with the real names and addresses! I just edited a bunch. I made some new categories.

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2001

Just so you know, if I post over there it won't be as Sheeple. I'd hate someone (LL) to start giving me problems again. Guess I'll use my new identity (elsewhere... maybe you've seen it...) apoc

Helen, you have my sympathies... hang in there, it'll work out for the better, hopefully sooner than later :)

Thank you for all of the good thoughts. It could be shock -- although the moment we realized what had happened, I knew this was coming -- I'm not worried in the least.

You see, we still have preps left. And I almost killed myself trying them out to see if they were still good. In the middle of the agony, in the middle of the night, I told God conversationally that I didn't mind the illness or the pain. I really did mind the fear, though. And maybe it was toxin-induced psychosis, or maybe it was real, but God was right there. I haven't been afraid since. Now, it could be that I lack the proper electrolyte balance in order to be afraid -- God knows I lost a couple of gallons of myself in a few short hours. Or it could be that God took pity on me and waved His wand and made me unafraid.

I've been dead certain ever since that everything that will happen is meant to be. Good or bad. Oddly, this is relaxing. Or maybe my electrolyte balance is badly out of whack. Whatever.

Today I put in three apps and picked up another. Today my current company said they will keep us ALL on board for a few hours a week, and tailor our hours around any other jobs we might get. I've got people lined up to be references. I've helped take care of them, now they're taking care of us.

The bottom line: stick together and we'll all make it somehow. And pray. You too, Git, it'll do you good. :)

(((((((Helen))))))) Hugs from the Hilltop. We certainly know what that's like. :-(

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2001

Not me, dear, if I did I would get struck by a lightning bolt for sure!!! Glad the company is trying to help out; I'm sure they know things will turn up soon.

I read about your experience--must have been bad to begin with 'cause we've been eating three-year old tuna and stuff with no problem. I found yet another stash of coffee the other day, 2.5 years old and it still tastes good.

Prayers for a speedy recovery and a new job that pays better than the former one!

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2001

helen wrote me the other night (I'm pretty sure before she was sick) to tell me that the cure for constipation is war. I wrote back that she was taking the wrong attitude. Surely the cure for war is constipation.

helen, you get bet now, you hear??

You guys are so...damn wonderful.

Things will be ok here. Do not REPEAT do not eat undercooked beans in any amount. If I can remember what I did with it, I'll find the link for illness related to undercooked beans. You can die from the fluid loss, and I as remember, I've already done that once before and may have done it again this time. Made myself sick...not died. >:)

-- Anonymous, September 22, 2001

Somewhere in the cobwebby corners of my memory, I remember some talk abotu undercooked beans on the old preps forum. I doubt I'll be able to find it, but I'll look. Wow! To think you could get so sick! Are you saying "Bean there, done that"?

-- Anonymous, September 22, 2001

Well, I did find info on soaking and cooking times for beans:

here

-- Anonymous, September 22, 2001

Aha! Got something.

Phytohaemagglutinin, the presumed toxic agent, is found in many species of beans, but it is in highest concentration in red kidney beans (Phaseolus vulgaris). The unit of toxin measure is the hemagglutinating unit (hau). Raw kidney beans contain from 20,000 to 70,000 hau, while fully cooked beans contain from 200 to 400 hau. White kidney beans, another variety of Phaseolus vulgaris, contain about one-third the amount of toxin as the red variety; broad beans (Vicia faba) contain 5 to 10% the amount that red kidney beans contain.

What's this? Talking about beans and no link to the fart thread?

someone is slipping big time!

-- Anonymous, September 22, 2001

ROTF! You know, I DID think about it but thought I'd aired it enough times already :)
