Worker told she couldn't wear patriotic ribbon decides to quit Associated Press Published Sep 18 2001 MANKATO -- An employee at the Mankato Clinic has decided to quit after being told she couldn't wear a patriotic ribbon to work.

Rebecca Allen gave her two-week notice Friday. She walked off the job after being told to remove a red, white and blue ribbon.

Workers who are attempting to unionize are using red, white and blue buttons. Allen said her supervisor told her if they allowed the ribbons, the clinic would have to allow the buttons.

Allen cleaned off her desk and went home.

She said clinic administrators have apologized and asked her to stay.

``But I just think it will be the best for me to go, under the circumstances,'' Allen said.
