Today, September 18, we members of the Catholic Church family honor, in a special way, the following friends of God -- saints whose souls are now in heaven:

St Hygbald (English, Benedictine abbot, c. 690)
St. Irene (martyred by beheading in Egypt c. 200)
St. John de Massias (Spanish, Dominican brother in Peru, d. 1645 [canonized 1975])
St. Joseph of Cupertino (Italian, Franciscan priest, mystic known for ecstatic levitation ["the flying friar"], d. 1663)
St. Methodius of Olympus (theologian admired by St. Jerome, bishop in what are modern Turkey and Lebanon, martyred c. 311)
St. Richardis (Alsatian, empress of Holy Roman Empire in 881, then Benedictine nun, d. 895)
St. Thomas of Villanova (Spanish, Augustinian, professor, archbishop, d. 1555)

If you have anything to share about these holy people, please reply now -- biographical episodes, prayers through their intercession, the fact that one is your patron saint -- whatever moves you. If you are interested in one of these saints and want to find out more about him/her, please ask. Information is sometimes available on the Internet.

All you holy men and women, saints of God, pray for us.
God bless you.
John
