See the lower thread about Canon 70-200s.

I have the Canon 70-200 F4L, and I am very happy with it, and I don't hesistate to recommend it to you. It's lighter, better optically and cheaper than the sigma. But if you must have the extra stop, then go for the sigma...but I'd vote for the canon.

I own the 70-200 f4L, and have been very happy with it. I continue to be impressed with its image quality at all focal lenths and f stops. Before purchasing, I rented the Canon f2.8L for a week. While I survived lugging it around, it was clear to me, that under many situations, I would be reluctant to carry it around because of its weight.

That being said, when you need an extra f-stop, you need it. And f2.8 is still better, and more versitile, than the f4. For me, f4 in the bag is better than f2.8 left at home.

i had the same question. i like to do a lot of nature photography, but i also do sports. at first i thought that if i got the sigma 70- 200mm f/2.8 so i could attatch a 2x TC and get a 400mm f/5.6. then i realised that the sigma has slower focusing speed and poorer image quality so i should stick with the canon brand. the focusing speed would be better for sports and i could use a 1.4x TC if i really needed the extra length.
