BBC America for US-based Mags

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Any of you in the US with BBC America on your cable/satellite systems, be sure to watch the highlights show. Our highlights are right at the top of the show. In addition to all the goals(which are so much easier to watch when I'm not chewing my nails off to keep from putting my hands over my eyes!), the entire red card incident is shown, complete with that shot of Shearer's face, followed by a post match interview with Shearer. He said he thought that game was better than the 5-0 for entertainment and value for money. Hadn't heard that statement mentioned anywhere.

I believe there's only 1 airing left. That's tomorrow morning (Tues) at 7am EST.

I don't have Digital, I almost don't have cable. Looks like I am going to have to commandeer a copy from the bar I watched it at.

fox sports world has the whole game 8pm wednesday night. i'll be taping it, anyone wants the tape it'll cost you the price of the blank tape plus whatever the fed ex rate is. first come first served.

Is that definite on Foxworld, GB? If so, I have friends out in Seattle who have that channel. If I can't get hold of them, or they set the vcr wrong, I'll definitely get back to you for a copy! :-)

GB - are you a US convert, like ciara, or an ex-pat Geordie? If the latter, how long have you been in NYC? Effected by the recent problems at all?

ciara-- you can always check what is on for the next two weeks by logging on to www.tvsoccer.com. I'd like to acknoledge this message in case it gets buried and you do not see it.

clarky, born in gateshead, been here 5 years.

affected? i think every body in the city has friends or acquaintances that died or narrowly escaped last week. for me no close friends but a few acquaintances or friends of friends. worst thing is the accounts of last phone calls or the personal accounts of guys dodging debris and falling people en route to safety.

GB,
Yes - it's all very harrowing, and yet I can't drag myself away from watching the tv coverage.

I lived in NYS, and worked in NYC for several years in the 80's, and still have a strong affinity for the city and it's folk - tough shells but generally hearts of gold. I really feel for them right now, and am impressed but not surprised by their stoicism.

It's funny really, but I have felt this irrational urge to travel to be in the city at this time, and to somehow share it's agony. However, my wife has said "no way, Jose!" - so, that's that!

Glad you weren't directly affected.
