[ot] Some people are still DGI - reflections of a conversation

Some people are still DGI's. This brief rant will be based upon a conversation which I had with my sister late last evening.

I phoned her to talk a bit, asked her if she was scared. I could tell by the shaking in her voice that she was so scared that she couldn't even get a brown stripe in her undies. You must understand my parents are getting up there in age, and neither of them can really do much for themselves let alone anyone else.

My brother-in-law works in a facility that *may* be targeted for the next series of attacks. I know that they have KI, as it is supplied to them. I phoned her to talk about the possibility of chemical and/or biological weapons being used. I told her that if she didn't want to hear what I was about to say to please hand the phone to her husband. She remained on the line.

I told her that if she heard of a chem or bio attack (especially in their area - say 250 mile radius or so) to get mom and dad and go to my grandmothers house. My grandmother has a huge basement, that will serve as some form of protection, but not that much.

She asked me where I was getting my information (like I'm some crazy person), and I told her from government officials on the news. Since my niece is "scared", they aren't watching TV or listening to the radio now as it gives her bad dreams. She is 11 freaking years old! My son at 7 is aware of the situation, as I have not hid something this important from him. Sure I don't make him watch it 24x7, but he is aware of what is happening. If he has questions, we talk. I don't gloss over and ignore the entire situation. I explain the situation in a way that a 7 y/o will understand (hopefully I do...)

She seems to think that I've cooked this up and it is just another Y2K scare item. If she ignores it, it will go away. I asked her if she thought it was the start of WWIII, and she answered yes. I told her that this would be more different than any other war before.

God how I wish that my parents lived close to me, so that I could attend to their needs. I have asked them to come for a long visit, but they are afraid to leave their doctors. I told them we had doctors out here, but they don't want to leave their home. Can't say as I really blame them.

Sorry for the rant, it is that some people are just so freaking clueless. Guess some sheep just sniffed the air and went back to chewing the lawn.

I wonder if TPTB, like Bush, will ever give us a Victory Garden speech. By which I mean, pointing out the things the individual citizen should consider doing to allow the big guys as much flexibility as possible. I really, really think it is our civic duty, the same way I thought so prior to the rollover. Finances, shelter, food and water, etc. I don't see how we can effectively be in it for the long haul with any other attitude. But getting folks to accept this one little step is such a watershed event in their mindset that it will be hard for anyone to suggest it.

"The more things change, the more they remain the same." Has it ever been a truer notion than right now?

I went to the store today...there were alot of people..very little noise..no panic, just people quietly filling carts with bulk items....some would look at YOUR cart, have eye contact...and a brief smile. some you could tell where scared and trying to think and COULDN'T.. I don't think it is going to take much to cause some to go over the edge.

Have not seen any signs of that here, SAR. I was at Costco on Sunday and nobody had a cartful of what I would consider stash items. But maybe, like me, the "doomers" were just supplementing what they already had.

the terrorists that lived for a while in south florida were members of BJ's. Along with library patrons. the FBI is at wits end to get anything they can from the library computers, but they say the terrorists used hotmail accounts, and the files are not saved. Maybe...
