I can say this, as a former 101st Airborne grunt, although in the 27 years since I was part of that unit, I'm sure their training has changed...

You can't parachute into desert mountains... period...

You can elude and fuck with regular ground forces in terrain like that as long as you have food, water and ammo...

Spent lots of time in the middle of summer outside FT. Bliss acting out the terrorist role against regular troops; I know what they're looking at... 82nd tried a jump in the middle of the night, killed a couple of kids, and if it hadn't been for military politics telling us to let them "take the hill" we could have easily "killed" them all... shit, I remember sitting there listening to them stumbling up the mountain an hour and a half before they ever got there, and being told to shut up, and do what we were told... ie., be deaf, dumb and blind...

I hope if that's what they plan, these kids are better trained than what they were back then..
