Bellamy and Robert vs Zenden and Jeffers

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Remember the "transfer season". After Jeffers rejected us we got Bellamy. After Zenden we got Robert. Thank god those stupid gits didnt wanna come here. We got two better players no doubt. Both Bellamy and Robert played superb today. The team should play more through Robert though, most balls still passes Solano in the midfield.

Anyone think Bellamy is a waste of 6mil now?

I never did Ciara, always said let's see what the lad can do. He will get better as time goes on. I like the thought of that.

And Robert keeps saying we haven't seen the best of him, yet. The mind just boggles.

I thought he was even though I didnt have any reasons for it. In cases like this its great to be wrong.

Isn't it funny how things work out Sudden? I supsect our poor track record in the transfer market caused many fans to question BR's judgment - particularly on Bellamy.

I'll readily admit to being one who was aghast at us spending £6.5mm on a player who been a total failure at Coventry - a figure I now think is suspect btw. I'll also readily admit that the lad has totally won me over. I've seen his last three performances - and have made him my personal MOTM in all three. In addition to searing pace, he brings to the team a vital ingredient that is missing without him - movement, for the full 90 minutes.

Robert is a real gem and undoubtedly a better player than Zenden. He is a talented, multi-dimensional player, who "thinks" - a rare commodity. We are very fortunate to have got him.

Sudden - yes I noticed that Robert was starved of the ball second half.
IMO Solano has one of his better games and got a reasonable amount of the ball which he made good use of. However I would have liked to see Bellamy and Robert in tandem more often. The right wing was often empty in the second half - Bellamy can't be everywhere!! (although he does try - bless his cotton socks)
I remember some rather scathing comments about our buys - especially Bellamy - during the summer. I just wish that we all could wait until we see the players in action and judge them after a reasonable number of games.

Bellamy -- may I add my name to all those who thought the lad was a bad buy. MEA MAXIMA CULPA

The season is but young. The boy Bellemy got off to a good start for coventry as well. Also this time last year i believe you were top.A fall of 3 places.Keep up the false hope boys and girls.Go to READY TO GO, at least we know our limits........

Kev , you have just highlighted the difference between the clubs, `we know our limits`?, we are ambitious , we want to win trophies, is that not what it is all about, or have I been wrong all these years

Without wanting to appear smug, I too elected to give Bellamy a chance so nah na ne nah nah.

He has been impressive and has been harder to knock off the ball than predicted. Buff hit the nail on the head when he said winning breeds confidence because the team yesterday knocked the ball about in a 'just in time' fashion, made you want to chew your nails but it was delicious to watch. It is noticeable that they don't capitulate like days gone by; when Manu came back 3-3 we didn't fold.

Undoubtedly, Bellamy won't sustain this form for the rest of the season. We've seen what pace can do for our team. The good news is that waiting in the wings (OK, the treatment room) is LKD. They may not play together very often this season, but it does give us cover for each other.

You know, if we had Bellamy or Dyer on the bench plus Distin and Bernard, they could cause havoc as subs. Remember at Everton the season before last, bringing on Dyer and Domi and the effect it had on the game?
