Afghanistan's legendary guerrilla leader Ahmad Shah Masood has died.

He had been wounded in a suicide bomb attack last Sunday.

Masood was the main military obstacle to the Taliban militia's complete conquest of Afghanistan.

His aides say he was hit by shrapnel from a bomb detonated by two Arabs posing as journalists.

The deception helped the assassins gain access to Masood's office.

There have been dozens of attempts on Masood's life in the last two decades.

The rebel forces have been battling the Taliban for years. They control some northeastern areas of Afghanistan.
