Frame line selecter problem.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I have an M6 classic that I bought a couple of months ago. Since then I have kept my 35 summilux on it (as a keep my 50 summicron on my other M6 ttl) when I have been out taking pictures. In swithing lenses the other day I noticed that while the lever will move when I change lenses, the frame lines stayed on the 35/135 setting. What might be wrong and how much might it be to get fixed? Thank you, Geri Brandimarte

Geri:

Can the frame lines be changed by moving the selector lever, perhaps with no lens fitted? If so, maybe working the lever a bit might free up something frozen in the finder. If that won't work, It sounds like it needs to go to the hospital.

I have the same thing wrong with my M6, the lines stay on 35/135 regardless of which lens is on. I understand that the pin has come out of the link that is attached to the lever, and that the top of the camera has to be removed to put it back. So I am having a CLA done in about 2 weeks up in Perth. I wonder how common this is and is it a design problem. PN

I've got an M6 Classic where this has happened - twice! The first time all the frame lines were visible and "stuck". Leica (UK) fixed this a couple of years ago. The second time was recently when the camera exhibited the same symptoms as yours. This was fixed by Leica (UK) a couple of months ago at a cost of £150. No problems since.

I have three Leica M bodies - two M6s and a M4P. My other M6 and the M4P were bought used; the M6 is from 1986 and the M4P from 1981. I've had no problems with either. The rogue M6 was bought new in 1997 and was itself a replacement for a new M6 which first had meter problems and, when that was fixed by Leica, had the frame counter stop working. The dealer replaced it. Before anyone asks - yes it was a grey import and not covered by the passport. Takes great pictures though!
