Mail deliveries

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I had an email from Half.com this morning concerning shipping due to the terrorist attack. Here is a quote from their email:

One small way you will be impacted is that all shipping carriers, including United States Postal Services, are likely to be delayed significantly since a majority of mail is carried via airplane. As of now, mail within a 600 mile radius of your location will be delivered, mail outside of this area is questionable at this time.

Just thought people might be interested to know that.

My husband and I were talking about this just the other day. We haven't yet received the credit card bill we were expecting and were talking about how we might want to send in the mortgage payment extra early.

Oh No!!!!!!!!!!!We are waiting for an insurance check (cash value) to help pay for our homestead. It won't stop me, but I'll have to pay interest while I wait for it. I don't mind though. Evil B*st*rds are being stopped from killing!

We live in a remote area where the tiny post office doors are never locked. Until this week we have never gone to the post office when we didn't get some kind of mail, mostly junk. We haven't had a single item put into our box since Tuesday morning. I think we'll also send our mortgage check extra early. In my 60 years of life I never thought I'd witness what I've witnessed this week.

God Bless America.

My husband has direct deposit but anyone at his company who should have gotten their check on Wed were told that it may be Monday.

I just got back from the post office and they have a sign by the drop off box, that states that if you have ANY thing other than the size of a letter, it must be taken to the window and not put in the box, with the reason being, security.

According to NPR yesterday, only one quarter of our mailed is handled by airplane, the rest is handled by truck. We are truck owner- operators, we can be in CA from OH in less than three days, and so can the rest of the semi trucks out there on the road!!!

Never fear, America's truck drivers will do their best and get the mail there ALMOST as fast as airplanes do!

Remember, in the winter in bad weather, air travel is grounded also, and everything is sent out over the road by truck.

Yep. UPS, USPS, Fed Ex, ect... should be sending everything ground until the planes get strightened out. I have some stuff coming from my friend in Finland but it don't matter. It'll get here sooner or later.

The Ups hub is just north of here in Louisville-that airport was up and running thurs afternoon so Ups packages should be getting through soon-I'm in rural Ky, but I've had mail everyday this week(much to my surprise) but a package from Amazon (Which is uasually very prompt) still after several days hasn't arrived and letters are showing a delayed postmark.-yeah, I sent off several bills early-though I wouldn't be surprised if many companies don't offer some leeway this week.
