CLINTON COMES BY TO COMFORT FAMILIES

By DAN KADISON and TOM TOPOUSIS

September 14, 2001 -- Former President Bill Clinton visited a shattered city yesterday, offering words of solace to the families of those missing in the World Trade Center carnage and regretting that his own efforts to slay terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden had failed.

"The best shot we had at him, Osama bin Laden, was when I bombed his training camp in 1998. [OG sarcasm: Oh yeah? I had no idea he was a pilot.] We just missed him by a matter of hours. Maybe even less than an hour," Clinton said after talking with grieving relatives of the World Trade Center bombing victims.

"We had good intelligence and we had him there at a place where he was doing nothing but training other people to do the kind of things that were done yesterday," said Clinton. [OG again: Shows how much you know, Clinton. They were trained to do those "kind of things" in Florida.]

The unsuccessful missile attack targeted a bin Laden training camp in Afghanistan after he was linked to the embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania.

Clinton, accompanied by daughter Chelsea, arrived a few blocks from the 69th Regiment Armory at Lexington Avenue and 26th Street at about 6:30 p.m., milling with relatives searching for information about missing loved ones.

He was greeted by cheers from the crowd.

"I just wanted to come down and show my support for the victims, their families, the missing, their friends and families, the police officers, the National Guard," Clinton said.

Clinton was full of praise for Mayor Giuliani, saying, "I think the mayor has done a brilliant job here." And he refused to second-guess President Bush's actions, instead calling for the nation to support him wholeheartedly.

"The important thing is that I am not president. I'm a citizen and I'm going to support the president. And that's what I want every American to do," Clinton said.

Well, if you say so! [My chapped ass!]

Actually, there was a pilot who was giving instructions in Afghanistan to osama's jerks.

Did you hear about the Microsoft Pilot program [$70+/-] that shows the WTC? It was mentioned in the news last night, someone was wondering if those terrorists had seen it or used it. It apparently shows the cockpit of those planes in detail.

I am not sure it is the same program, but when programs are marked 'windows compatible' that means they will run without error with a pilot program by Microsoft. I read that somewhere.

Sweetie has several flight simulator programs and they're very realistic. I shall have to ask him if he's got one with a NY or DC scenario on it.
