NYC Mayor Says 4,763 Reported Missing
NEW YORK (AP) – As crews combed through the ruins, desperate to find a living soul. Mayor Rudolph Giuliani today said 4,763 people have been reported missing in the devastation of the World Trade Center. "It could turn out we recover fewer than that; it could be more," he said. "We don't know the answer." The 4,763 missing reported by Giuliani, added to the deaths in Washington and Pennsylvania, would bring the total to more than 5,000. That would be higher than the death toll from Pearl Harbor and the Titanic combined.
