someone had posted about this on Teusday, but it never made it to the airwaves because of 'more pressing news' but that was apparently why Amtrak was closed down for the next four hours as was being shown on the ticker tape tuesday afternoon.

Unless this is another one?

Barefoot, I think you're thinking of the Amtrak/freight train crash in TX. Different crash.

yes, that is the one. so, we have another today? Are we going to be shutting down trains as the planes take off?

Oh my!

I am wondering if we can expect bombs on freight trucks that go off at key intersctions in an attempt to close major arteries across the nation.

Two trains crash in western Utah

Area hospital alerted to expect casualties

The Associated Press, Posted September 13 2001, 9:16 AM EDT

WENDOVER, Utah -- An Amtrak train crashed into another train and caught fire today, but there are no immediate reports of serious injuries, emergency officials said.

The train was the California Zephyr heading from Chicago to Oakland, Calif., said Amtrak spokeswoman Cheryle Jackson in Chicago.

Only minor injuries were reported initially, though parts of the train are on fire, said Wade Matthews of Tooele County Emergency Management. He said the train had between 100 and 200 people aboard.

The passengers were evacuated and are boarding buses, Jackson said. She had no detail on injuries.

LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City activated its mass casualty plan, spokesman Jess Gomez said. The accident east of Wendover happened between 5 and 6 a.m., Gomez said.

The hospital has also sent its helicopter to the scene, he said.

Wendover is in west-central Utah near the Nevada line, some 120 miles west of Salt Lake City.

Amtrak is an alternative for people wanting to travel across the country two days after terrorist attacks in New York and Washington closed airports.
