Apparently the firefighters were the ones (maybe out of 400) who responded to the collapse of the North Tower, and then were buried when the South Tower came down. Or something like that. Whole units gone.

If you notice, the officials are kind of playing down the number dead. I mean, they talk about horrible casualties but nobody official will talk about tens of thousands; people don't really understand. When they see the bodies, pile upon pile tomorrow, they're going to get really, really angry. I think TPTB managed to keep a lid on it tonight by not showing too many bodies--but tomorrow is another story. Again, thank God Bush is in the White House and not Clinton or Gore.
