AVI2MPG2 v1.24

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

First of all thank you for your help, this site is really helpful. I've decided to crate a SVCD due to the poor quality of my previous VCD. I did some research in the internet with the purpose of saving some money. I found a pretty good software to encode my .avi files AVI2MPG2 v 1.24. However, I don't know the right settings to create a SVCD using this software. Recently I created a SVCD but the sound didn't work and I really donn't know what elese should I do! Anyone has an idea how this software works, or at least helpme some how to create a decent SVCD. I define decent as equal the VCR resolution.

Thanks

I've never heard of AVI2MPG2. I can tell you that your goal of VCR quality is reasonable. SVCD needs the following settings - video bit rate of 2600 Mbps or less (most DVD players that play SVCD don't check the bit rate, but the SVCD spec requires it be under 2600, so you might want to use 2400 or so), audio bit rate of 224 Mbps or less, 480x480 NTSC or 480x572 PAL. There is a SVCD forum that might be of interest to you. It's at network54.com/Hide/Forum/70438. It's really more appropriate to post SVCD questions there than in this forum.

i make a lot of "backup" copys of DVD's using DIVx, i suggest that u use (SmartRipper) to convert DVD files to a .vob file. then use DVDx to convert .vob to .mpg2 files. to burn use Nero 5, open a new file and select SVCD select Pal for european players, NTSC for USA players put the mpeg2 file into the bottom box, then burn... As i don't have avi2mpg2 to figure it out i cant help... if u can tell me where to find it i might be able to sus it out.

Hi,

This is actually to Mark, But may benefit other people. I happened across this program by accident, After days of trying to convert various avi files to mpeg2 with comercial programs and having the crash. I am currently converting my first file with this program so do not know the outcome, yet, But looks more promising.

Anyway, Back to the point. I downloaded this program from here: (http://www.videotools.net/).

It is part of a package called "bbMPEG" and their homepage is: http://members.cox.net/beyeler/bbmpeg.html

Hope this helps

Regards

Terry
