Just read this on RTG :

Posted by Roly Gregoire on 11 September, 2001 at 18:41:25: At least 100 of my colleagues were murdered today at least five of whom I can call close personal friends were they (and their families) have stayed at my house and my wife and my family have stayed at theirs. In the scheme of things it was a small office in Trade Tower 1 (North) and given that we employ 120,000 people globally it was the tiniest of entries in the directory. I was last there three weeks ago and I remember we had one great night out and put the problems of the world to rest. I also knew many of the people at Morgan Stanley who occupied circa. 50 floors of Trade Tower 2 (South). As I write this in tears gripped with horror and fear (for what we have become) I can do no more than remember the good times. Their bodies may never be recovered what is there to grieve for. My flight to Washington tomorrow has of course been cancelled and I don't think that I ever want to get on an aeroplane ever again. I am now back at my house... we shut our offices when the security people arrived at about 3pm. I intend to drink copious amounts of alocohol tonight and subject to the green light from our contingency planning people will arrive at my office tomorrow. But it will never ever be the same again.

You can leave poor Roly a message on RTG.

Roly - no idea what you and tens of thousands of others must be going through but all the best to you. You will get through it eventually, just don`t think you have to understand it first. Come back when you´re ready

My sympathies and prayers are with you and the families of all your coworkers and friends, Roly. There's no words that seem sufficient.

Sympathy Roly, I did think of you from a previous posting that you would have friends there

Roly,

I have lost friends due to terrorism when I served in Northern Ireland, its a horrible feeling and I can understand what you are going through. Remember the good times you have had with your friends - thats the only advice I could offer.

All the best,

Alan

Thanks to you all... I just posted this on RTG

cheers and will post again in a few weeks perhaps

To all on RTG and Greespun who have e-mailed me either at the hotmail address, private or work; thanks I appreciate it a lot.

Details are still fuzzy but becoming clearer. It turns out that we had 400+ people in World Plaza that day, however, just over 300 are now accounted for. Bank security staff had them moving down the stairwells as soon as the first plane hit and for that we are greatful.

However, my close friends and nearly 100 people are not accounted for. The details are sparse but apparently they were on the stairs at approximately the fiftieth floor when the stairwell collapsed through about 10 storys.

I am part of a contingency management team that has been put together and will be flying to NYC probably on Saturday.

Because all of our NYC systems are down we have client communication issues, etc, and, I'm going to be part of the calming and consolidation squad.

I'm not happy about flying neither is my wife but I figure that if my American colleagues are prepared to get on planes to fly into NYC from elsewhere in the USA as part of the same team then its not my place or the time to gripe.

There are some real stories of heroism and bravery out there... I'm sure you've seen the news and some real heartbreakers.

I'll be back on line in 2 or 3 weeks... to give you all shite and grief as usual.... in the meantime....

FTM and ,......

its only a game....

Roly - good luck. At least you can take comfort in the fact that you will have the geatest ever security for any commercial trans-Atlantic flights. I expect armed guards on all planes flying to/from USA from now on. It's no doubt going to be a tough time, no doubt bringing back yet more memories of your lost colleagues. But your response is exactly what is required - not to mention you and your wife's concern. By reacting in the way you and your company have, you are showing that even such a horrendous attack on civilisation will not stop you.

My thoughts are with you in such difficult circumstances.

BTW - be prepared for a relegation fight when you get back, you SMB ;-)

Best wishes to you, Roly. Much respect to you and everyone going in there to dig out and start trying to get things back on track.

Roly, thanks for bringing us up to date. All the very best for what will be a difficult time. The human spirit is very resourceful in times of crises, I'm sure you'll find the strength to cope.

Duty calls Roly - so important in demonstrating to the bastards who did this that in the final analysis they cannot win.

God speed: have a safe and productive trip.

As you so correctly point out ...... it really is only a game.
